The Role
We are seeking a passionate and creative?Robotics Instructor?to join our after-school program team. This role is designed for an educator who believes in blending technology, problem-solving, and teamwork with the creativity and expression that drives the arts.
Position Summary
The Robotics Instructor will lead hands-on robotics and engineering sessions for students ages 10-14], introducing them to the fundamentals of robotics, coding, and design thinking. The instructor will foster a supportive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where students from diverse backgrounds can explore STEM through an artistic lens.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, develop, and deliver engaging robotics lessons and activities that integrate creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork.
Guide students in designing, building, and programming robots using kits (LEGO Education).
Incorporate artistic and design principles into robotics projects, connecting STEM to the organization's arts-based mission.
Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment that values collaboration and innovation.
Support students in preparing for showcases, demonstrations, or competitions that highlight their learning.
Collaborate with program staff to align robotics activities with the organization's overall educational goals.
Maintain classroom materials, equipment, and supplies, ensuring all are used safely and responsibly.
Serve as a positive mentor and role model, inspiring students to build confidence in both technical and creative skills.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in education, engineering, computer science, or related field (or equivalent professional experience preferred)
Experience teaching or facilitating youth programs, preferably in urban or community-based settings.
Hands-on experience with robotics kits, coding platforms, or maker tools.
Strong classroom management skills and the ability to adapt to different learning styles.
A passion for working with young people, fostering curiosity, and connecting STEM with the arts
Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education.
Preferred Skills
Experience integrating STEM concepts into arts-based programming.
Familiarity with culturally responsive teaching practices.
Ability to organize student showcases or participate in robotics competitions.
