Responsible for the safe operation of heavy equipment, dump trucks, light equipment and moving all equipment around the county on a lowboy trailer. Will be the substitute foreman for the road foreman, construction foreman and quarry foreman when they are on vacation or sick leave for an extended period.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. A desire to be a leader is required.
2. Must be able to operate a road grader, bulldozer, track loader, backhoe, excavator, large rollers, single and double axle dump trucks, small smooth drum roller, brush chipper, water truck, forklift, tractor with pull behind sheeps foot or grid, skidsteer. over the road tractor with drop-deck trailer, over the road tractor with drive on trailer, and other equipment as needed. Must demonstrate the ability to efficiently operate at least two types of heavy equipment.
3. Must be able to drive all heavy equipment on and off of trailer.
4. Must be able to perform proper pre-shift inspection of equipment and report any hazards or defects to supervisor.
5. Responsible for keeping interior and exterior of equipment clean.
6. Must be able to tailgate spread road.
7. Must be able to perform routine maintenance on equipment.
8. Must be aware of your surroundings and any hazards that are in your work area.
9. Must be able to operate chainsaw.
10. Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces, stand for long periods of time, and work in all types of weather.
11. Must be able to operate a dump truck or a 4 X 4 pickup with a snow plow at all times of day and in all types of weather.
12. Must maintain a professional attitude and appearance at all times.
13. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, candidates should have strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work effectively with supervisors and coworkers. The role requires good reading, problem-solving, and basic math skills, as well as attention to detail when inspecting items for size, shape, or accuracy. Applicants should be able to operate equipment safely, demonstrating good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity. The position also requires adaptability under pressure, professionalism in all interactions, and the ability to speak and hear clearly to maintain effective communication and a safe work environment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATION, LICENSES, OR REGISTRATIONS
Class A CDL.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be physically able to operate heavy equipment. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to work outside and have the ability to withstand heat and cold. Extended periods of sitting may be required. Physical demand requirement are consistent with those of light to medium work.
