Operates a variety of equipment including the following: Trucks/Tractors with belly dumps tankers and/or lowboys water truck dump truck pick-up truck service truck ag tractor and rotary shredder pneumatic roller steel wheel roller front-end loader backhoe/loader and motor grader. Operates snowplow when weather conditions warrant. Work is performed primarily in the field in varying weather conditions - hot or cold humidity wind rain and snow exposure to sunlight dust pollen chemicals exposure to moving mechanical parts high precarious places toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles rough/rugged terrain noxious plants and infected trash exposure to hazardous chemicals insects and reptiles loud noises confined spaces stressful situations subject to falls and bruises considerable physical strain high speed/high volume traffic interaction with the public local county school and city officials by phone an in person irregular hours day or night subject to call out for emergencies heavy lifting sitting/standing bending squatting climbing reaching kneeling and crawling for extended periods of time may be required.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED certificate required; A minimum of five (5) years of heavy road maintenance experience will be accepted in lieu of.
Previous experience in equipment operation and road maintenance strongly preferred.
New Mexico Class A CDL with tanker endorsement must be obtained within six (6) months of employment. Employee may be eligible for County assistance through the Curry County Payment/Reimbursement Administrative Policy if employee successfully competes three (3) months of employment as a Road Equipment Operator.
Must be able to read; write and follow written and oral instructions in English.
Must be able to write operations reports.
Must successfully complete pre-employment drug screen; pre-employment screening and background check.
Valid NM Driver's License.
Ability to be in compliance with DOT Testing Requirements.
Ability to perform all essential duties as listed below.
Ability to perform the essential duties in the working conditions described below.
Ability to work with the equipment; tools and materials listed below.
Ability to be available nights and weekends for inclement weather; road hazards; accidents; and any other emergency that the Superintendent sees necessary.
Must comply with safety guidelines and policies of the County.
