Role Overview

The Project Manager / Estimator is responsible for both preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates and overseeing the planning and completion of roadway construction projects. This position plays a critical role in ensuring ARL projects are bid competitively, delivered safely, on time, and within budget.

What You'll Do

Estimating:

Prepare detailed cost estimates using HCSS HeavyBid.

Review blueprints and specifications for take-offs and material/labor needs.

Work with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams to secure pricing.

Maintain cost history databases and evaluate post-project performance.

Project Management:

Develop and manage project schedules and budgets.

Coordinate with field teams, subcontractors, and clients.

Oversee labor, equipment, and materials allocation.

Provide proactive client communication and manage expectations.

Ensure compliance with all jobsite safety standards.

Handle documentation: progress worksheets, invoices, change orders, closeout.

What We're Looking For

3-5 years of experience in estimating and/or project management (roadway/heavy civil preferred).

Proficiency with HCSS HeavyBid and ERP/project management software (e.g., Acumatica).

Strong understanding of project financials, scheduling, and resource management.

Ability to read blueprints/specifications and manage multiple projects.

Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Familiarity with union work environments.

Ability to travel to job sites, including occasional night work.

Preferred:

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.

Prior field experience in roadway construction/traffic maintenance.

PMP or equivalent project management certification.
