Job Description

This position is designed for new RN graduates or RNs with less than one year of Emergency Department (ED) experience, or no ED experience. The role offers hands-on ED training during the first year, with 8- or 12-hour shifts. After 12 months, if the RN successfully meets all standards, they will transition to casual call status. RN Training Program staff are encouraged to apply for open full-time positions when available. As a casual call employee, the RN is required to work two shifts per department schedule (8 or 12 hours), with one shift falling on a weekend (according to the 4- or 6-week cycle). Additional shifts and weekday hours are available to be picked up.
Job Summary
In the RN Training Program position, the Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct professional nursing care to emergent/urgent/non-urgent care patients by utilizing nursing knowledge and critical thinking skills. Performs technical nursing functions, utilizes the nursing process to assess patient status, develop, implement, and evaluate patient care. Ensures a therapeutic and safe environment for patients and families within the guidelines and policies of the department and the philosophy of the organization. This position provides age-specific and developmentally appropriate care for neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
Compensation
We are committed to providing wage ranges for all open positions. Please note that the specific compensation for this role will be determined based on FTE, market analysis, and internal equity considerations. The flat rate hourly amount for this position is $40.25. This amount reflects the base salary for this position.
Key Accountabilities
Provide direct, individualized nursing care based on scientific principles and reflecting a patient-centered philosophy.
Interviews patient and/or family to obtain history and reviews collected data to provide accurate assessment and assign triage priority.
Initiates diagnostic/therapeutic measures as indicated by standing protocols and physician orders.
Evaluates patient response to interventions and modified plan of care to achieve patient health care goals.
Recognizes critical episodes and initiates appropriate interventions.
Communicates clearly and appropriately with others in the hospital environment as well as external customers, coordinating the needs of nursing with those of other departments; assists in problem solving related to the welfare of patients and staff.
Communicates and acts a a liaison between patient, family, and physician, with respect for confidentiality and dignity, utilizing appropriate channels of communication.
Utilizes knowledge of medications, procedures, and infection control to safely administer medications following hospital policies within the scope of practice.
Participates in and promotes patient and family education to achieve patient health care goals.
Qualifications
Current RN license with the Minnesota Board of Nursing, in good standing
Current certifications in BLS (AHA), ACLS, TNCC, CPI and ENPC, or willingness to obtain within 6 months of start date (company paid). If employment ends prior to one year, the employee is responsible for re-paying the cost of these certifications.
Schedule
60 hours per 2-week pay period
Shifts: 7am-7pm, 8am-8pm, 11am-11pm, 1pm-1am, 7pm-7am, or 11pm-7am
Weekends as needed and rotating holidays
