UConn Health is searching for a

RN Quality Assurance Specialist

to join our team! This position is accountable for coordination of a department Quality Assurance Plan, monitoring clinical unit based core measures and quality assurance activities and determining division/department wide trends and issues. This position will work in Clinical Effectiveness Administration located in Farmington, CT.


SCHEDULE

: Fulltime 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with minor holidays


EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:


Develops and maintains various databases and measurement mechanisms for the collection, analysis and reporting of quality improvement and patient safety initiatives and activities. Provides clinically based concurrent and retrospective review of inpatient medical records to evaluate documentation for compliance with external and internal performance and quality measurement requirements. Concurrent and retrospective abstraction of The Joint Commission (TJC) and Centers for Medicare/Medicaid Services (CMS) core/quality measures. Interfaces with other disciplines to manage selected issues and develop efficient reporting systems to increase compliance with core/quality measures. Maintains awareness of current regulatory requirements, new trends in quality, high reliability, and patient safety. Designs and compiles designated reports to reflect unit based and department wide activities. Investigate and follow up of patient safety events. Facilitates apparent cause analysis (ACA) and root cause analysis (RCA). Makes recommendations for change. Coordinates responses to regulatory agencies. Serves as a quality and patient safety consultant. Educate staff and physicians to core/quality measurement criteria, documentation requirements and best practice goals. Performs related duties as required.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

: The QA Specialist will report to the Manager of Clinical Effectiveness Administration.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIRED


KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:

Knowledge of quality improvement methodologies and tools, such as PDSA cycles, and LEAN. Prior work or knowledge with trend analysis, outcome measures and quality improvement
processes.
Demonstrated ability to manage various data collection methodologies, information analyses and produce clear report presentations. Proficient with data analysis and use of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Must be able to analyze patient safety and quality trends and issues. Knowledge of high reliability principles and practices. Knowledge of the principles, practices, and current trends in quality assurance. Knowledge of, and ability to apply relevant State and Federal regulations. Ability to work well independently and in collaboration with other staff members to meet reporting deadlines. Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


Bachelor's degree in nursing, with four (4) or more years of inpatient clinical experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

:
Two (2) years of the general experience must have been gained through active participation in Quality Assurance and Patient Safety activities.

SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED:

A Master's degree in Nursing may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree and one (1) year of experience.


FULL TIME EQUIVALENT MINIMUM SALARY:

$85,072.00, more based on experience.
