Summary:
Provides nursing capacity leadership for a specific shift and unit/area.
Work Schedule: Full Time Days
Unit: Surgical Specialties Unit
Populations Typically Served: Complex surgical patients admitted from the Perioperative setting, Emergency Department, Ambulatory Clinics, or from Progressive of Intensive Care Units
Acuity Level: Surgical Acute Care
Number of Beds: 36
Types of Procedures or Diagnosis Typically Seen: Trauma sequelae, Acute Care Surgery, General Surgery, Urology, Gender Affirmation, Bariatric Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Vascular Surgery
Responsibilities:
Provides mentoring and coaching during an assigned shift, including productivity and quality management, for the patient flow of the assigned unit/area. Promotes teamwork and cooperation.
Provides direct patient care as needed. Assists with problem-solving discharge barriers. May take patient assignments to meet staffing needs. Evaluates the effectiveness of patient care at the time of discharge and identifies issues that affect desired patient outcomes. Responds to complaints and manages through established channels while conducting patient rounding.
Participates in capacity management meetings and MDRs throughout the day, working with team members to promote adequate patient flow.
Performs role-specific duties as assigned, including entering orders, performing admissions or discharges, and coordinating transfers.
Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.
