Title: RN-OR
Location: Edina, MN 55435
Duration: 13 weeks assignment.
Evening Shift: 8 Hours 5 night

Summary:

  • The Registered Nurse - Operating Room (RN-OR) is responsible for providing safe and effective care to patients during surgical procedures in a multi-specialty setting.
  • The RN-OR utilizes critical thinking skills, specialty knowledge, and effective communication strategies to establish a safe environment for the surgical patient.
  • The RN-OR is responsible for implementing protective measures and maintaining continuous surveillance of the patient to ensure their physiological stability during the surgical procedure.
  • The RN-OR must also demonstrate knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and equipment relevant to the scrub role.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Establishes an environment of safety for the surgical patient.
  • Implements protective measures prior to operative or invasive procedures.
  • Participates in the surgical team TIME OUT prior to the start of the procedure and applies safety devices and protective measures to prevent skin or tissue injury due to thermal, mechanical, electrical, and chemical sources.
  • Performs required counts and manages specimen handling and disposition.
  • Maintains continuous surveillance and verifies allergies.
  • Provides for safe patient transfer and serves as scrub person during operative procedures.
  • Assesses, diagnoses, implements, and evaluates treatments and procedures that contribute to the physiological stability of the surgical patient.
  • Applies principles of aseptic technique and establishes and maintains sterile fields.
  • Performs skin preparations and ensures perioperative environmental sanitation.
  • Classifies the surgical wound, initiates traffic control, and administers care to the wound site.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of sterilization methods and protects from cross-contamination.
  • Manages culture specimen collection and implements, monitors, and evaluates thermoregulation measures.
  • Collaborates in fluid and electrolyte management and identifies and reports the presence of implantable cardiac devices.
  • Demonstrates knowledge about the psychological, sociologic, and spiritual responses of patients and their families to the operative or other invasive procedure.
  • Determines knowledge level and implements measures to provide psychological support and explain the expected sequence of events.
  • Supports patients\' rights and ethics by delivering consistent, competent, and ethical care, within legal standards of practice, while maintaining privacy and support of the patient\'s value system.
  • Verifies consent for planned procedure, identifies individual values and wishes concerning care, develops an individualized plan of care, and ensures continuity of care.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Current Minnesota RN License 1 year recent OR RN circulating experience in a multi-specialty setting.
  • BLS certification.
  • BSN degree preferred.
