Elmhurst Hospital Center is seeking experienced Registered Nurses (RN) for the ICU Step-Down (Intermediate Care) unit. This role supports patients transitioning from the ICU who require close monitoring and advanced nursing care beyond a general medical-surgical setting.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care in a high-acuity step-down environment
Monitor patients using cardiac monitors and other medical equipment
Perform frequent patient assessments and escalate changes in condition appropriately
Manage patients with tracheostomies, feeding tubes, catheters, ventilators, and IV therapies
Respond to rapid response and cardiac arrest codes
Deliver safe, compassionate, and evidence-based nursing care
Patient Population
Young adult to geriatric
RN-to-patient ratio: 1:4
Schedule
3 flexible shifts per week
11.5-hour shifts
Alternating weekends and holidays
1-hour meal break per shift
Approximately 34.5 hours per week
Required Experience
Two (2) years of Medical/Surgical Step-Down experience OR
Two (2) years of ICU experience
Two (2) years of IV insertion and phlebotomy experience
Two (2) years of conscious sedation experience
Demonstrated age-specific competency
Education Requirements
Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN/ADN) from an accredited program
Graduation from an accredited National League for Nursing (NLN) school
BSN or equivalent combination of education and experience accepted
Licensure & Certifications
Active New York State RN License
Primary Source Verification via NYS Department of Education
AHA BLS (required)
AHA ACLS (required)
