Outpatient Clinic Nurse - FT Days
Reports to the Director Psychiatric Medicine and Addiction Medicine or designee and provides clinic support, and telephonic nursing support for the Psychiatric Outpatient Services. The Nurse functions with autonomy in clinical nursing practice within the guidelines established by the Iowa Board of Nursing and Broadlawns Medical Center. The Behavioral Health Clinic Nurse is responsible for assisting physicians and other healthcare providers to provide timely patient visits, communications. and the processing of outpatient medication refill requests. The Clinic Nurse will assist providers in communicating laboratory and other test results to patients. The Nurse provides case management and education sessions in the Partial Hospital programs. or direct care to patients in the Injection clinic. The Nurse documents and maintains records in accordance with standards within the scope of nursing practice.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Primarily responsible for oversight of the Injection Clinic including administration of long-acting antipsychotic and MAT treatment medications in a busy setting. Works collaboratively with physicians and other members of the healthcare team to provide patient care services in an accurate, timely, and consistent manner. Acts in a professional manner, reflecting the mission of the medical center and compliant with policies, procedures, regulatory agencies and professional requirements. Performs assessment data collection and documents subjective data (chief complaint and allergies) and objective data (vital signs and weight). Reviews and documents basic health history information for patients. Addresses phone calls from patients and other appropriate individuals related to medications including potential side effects or adverse reactions. Recognizes potentially dangerous symptoms of patients that require immediate referral to the physician or emergency services. At the direction of the physician. provides patient notification and education regarding results of various laboratory and other test results and documents actions in the medical record. Receives and processes medication refill requests following established policies and protocols. Handles requests in an accurate, timely and thorough manner. Exercises good judgment in the identification of potential problems such as medication side effects. adverse interactions, non-compliance with the medical plan of care and repeated failure to keep scheduled appointments. Provides and reinforces education needed for patient adherence to the treatment plan, including managing medication, symptoms and/or test result information. Pre-authorizes care for provider services. Provides short term case management for patients seen in various PMAM programs. Documents communication and information accurately, and forwards telephone calls and/or messages to the correct person(s). Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to clients'/significant others rights and needs. Attends meetings and in-service programs as appropriate. Participates actively on committees as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor/designee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Current Iowa RN License. Experience with providing intramuscular injections in a fast paced environment. Demonstrates clear and effective communication skills. General knowledge skills in the use of computers including basic computer applications. Ability to develop computer skills on the CMS and Cerner system(s).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
One year experience in the outpatient mental health setting. Bilingual. Spanish preferred.
