Education - A bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) received from an accredited school of professional nursing is preferred, associates (RN) required.
Experience - A minimum of three (3) years' related experience in direct patient care, preferably in an ambulatory care setting.
Licenses & Certification - Incumbent is required to possess current licensure by the State of Oklahoma or National Council of State Boards of Nursing for Registered Nurse and current CPR and ACLS certification.
Knowledge & Skills -
Knowledge of all aspects of a range of telephony systems and telehealth applications.
Knowledge of acceptable standards of nursing practices, principles, and theories.
Knowledge of IHS and MCNDH policies and procedures as they relate to patient care, patient case management, and appropriate documentation in the electronic medical record.
Knowledge of the Privacy Act and other related regulations with regards to confidentiality and the release of medical information.
Ability to communicate and interact effectively with patients and their families, staff members, other MCNDH employees, tribal officials and the public both orally and in writing.
Knowledge of patient educational needs and teaching techniques to be utilized for patient care management and follow-up.
Ability to communicate and accept varied lifestyles, healing methods and practices.
Knowledge and skill to utilize a PC in a Windows environment and to operate other necessary office equipment.
Adept at many administrative tasks including intake, document management, and drafting written correspondence.
Knowledge of and ability to utilize knowledge of medical treatment to assess symptoms and recommend treatment for patients through telephone support.
Well-versed in symptomatology and pathology.
Ability to communicate effectively in a call center environment while delivering a high level of customer service.
JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of this position is to facilitate patient triage and care while being agile and responsive to dynamic patient needs and environmental conditions. Responsible for answering calls from patients and assessing their needs related to their health conditions. In collaboration with MCNDH providers and departments, responsible for the provision of quality patient care in compliance with local, tribal, state, and federal regulations and accreditation standards.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in an office, clinical and hospital setting. The risk of exposure to hostile and emotionally disturbed patients, families and visitors does exist. There is a moderate risk of exposure to contagious disease. Incumbent must take precautions as required. Occasional travel may be required. Incumbent must be insurable to drive a GSA vehicle.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work requires the demands of normal office work and dealing with patients in a hospital and clinic setting. Occasional driving to other MCNDH facilities and to attend education/training programs/seminars may be required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Satisfactory job performance will be determined by successful execution of the following:
Monitors and responds to triage calls on the nurse phone line or infectious disease hotline.
The ability to observe and assess a patient's clinical condition, recognize, identifies, and interprets serious situations and immediately decides proper action. Knowledge of when and how to inform the provider and take pre-planned measures.
Talks directly to patients on the telephone and then directs patients through the appropriate clinical pathway for needed care.
Uses clinical decision support for improved patient care.
Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patient's electronic health record.
Work with nursing and ancillary staff to coordinate the flow of patients within the healthcare process.
Serves as a clinical resource and professional role model for other nursing staff.
Arranges appointments for patients and consults with physician leaders as needed.
Prioritizes work tasks and patient care services to complete tasks in a timely manner.
Maintains accurate, clear, and concise progress notes, problem lists, and medication lists.
Reduces conflict and increases patient satisfaction whenever possible through timely response to calls.
Maintains a professional demeanor and adheres and promotes professional, ethical and legal standards of nursing.
Regular attendance is required.
