Registered Nurse Behavioral Health -- 13?Week Contract (Norfolk, NE)

Overview

Short-term 13?week contract for a Registered Nurse (RN) with behavioral health/psychiatric experience at a hospital-based behavioral health unit in Norfolk, Nebraska. This role supports patient assessment, crisis intervention, medication administration, and multidisciplinary treatment planning for adults and adolescents with acute behavioral health needs.

Assignment Details

Location: Norfolk, NE Duration: 13 weeks (contract) Shift: Nights (3 x 12?hour shifts per week typical; schedule may vary) Start date: ASAP / negotiable based on candidate availability Setting: Short?term acute behavioral health / inpatient psychiatric unit Charting system: Facility electronic health record (orientation provided)
Key Responsibilities

Provide safe, therapeutic nursing care to patients with psychiatric and behavioral health diagnoses. Perform mental health assessments, monitor psychiatric status, and document changes in condition. Implement individualized nursing care plans and participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning and rounds. Administer psychotropic and other medications, monitor effects, and report adverse events. Use de?escalation techniques and crisis intervention strategies to manage agitation, aggression, and self?harm risk. Conduct suicide risk assessments and follow safety protocols, including one?to?one observation when required. Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record. Communicate effectively with physicians, therapists, social workers, families, and community resources for safe transitions of care. Maintain therapeutic boundaries while fostering engagement and recovery?oriented care. Participate in unit safety checks, seclusion/restraint documentation, and compliance with regulatory standards.
Required Qualifications

Current and active RN license in Nebraska (compact license acceptable if valid for Nebraska). Minimum 1-2 years of recent behavioral health/psychiatric nursing experience in an inpatient or acute care setting. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Demonstrated competency in crisis de?escalation, therapeutic communication, and safety management. Strong clinical judgment, charting skills, and ability to work independently in a fast?paced environment. Ability to pass facility background check and drug screen.
Preferred Qualifications

Certification in Psychiatric?Mental Health Nursing (PMH?BC) or equivalent. Experience with EHR systems used in hospital settings. Training or certification in CPI, TCI, or other behavior management programs. Experience working with adult and adolescent populations.
Pay: $2,259.00 per week
