Job Summary
The Risk & Underwriting Advisor role will be responsible for all pricing activities in supporting Sales and Account Management (SAM) for renewing and new sales clients. The Risk & Underwriting Advisor will develop client-specific pricing strategies with competitive offers in the marketplace for all requests. These requests may include Request for Proposals (RFPs), Direct Renewals and Market Checks.

The Risk & Underwriting Advisor will also provide pricing support for all ad hoc analyses (i.e. evaluating a change in formulary request, evaluating a change in retail network or retail arrangement request retail requests, evaluating a change in specialty arrangement request, etc.) with a potential financial impact. The Risk & Underwriting Advisor will be required to gain in-depth knowledge of the PBM Industry and ESI-specific pricing methods. The Risk & Underwriting Advisor will be required to follow the Pricing Guidelines provided by ESI\'s Pricing Governance Team.

Essential Functions

  • Develop pricing strategy and underwrite offers to win and retain clients while also maximizing profitability.
  • Conduct analytical, quantitative, and financial cost modeling for clients with varying lines of business including Commercial Employer Groups, Medicare Part D, Medicaid and Health Care Exchange and present to C-level executives.
  • Work with Sales and Account Management to review, strategize and analyze client renewal and new sales opportunities.
  • Support Senior Leadership in business management through understanding margin and performance drivers.
  • Attend client meetings and provide consultative client support by conducting in-depth analyses to identify client specific trends, explain past program performance, and recommend opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide clients with plan design consultation and appropriate plan design recommendations through creative modeling and analyses.
  • Negotiate and manage the set-up of a client\'s contract to ensure compliance with financial terms and pricing guarantees.
  • Participate in department and company projects.
  • Develop and improve existing best practices for client support and financial modeling.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Finance, or equivalent work experience
  • 5-8 years relevant work experience in pricing and/or underwriting
  • PBM / Managed Care / Healthcare / Pharmaceutical experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, advanced ability with Microsoft Office & Excel
  • Entrepreneurial attitude; Ability to take ownership and deliver results; Experience in deal pricing and optimization or underwriting; Strong understanding of client analytics, financials, and value trade offs
  • Up to 10% travel may be required
