Risk Manager
in the
Risk and Patient Safety department.
This position requires occasional travel to our system site locations around Chicagoland as needed.
The primary function of this position will be to work with clinicians and administrators within the Medical Center to conduct pro-active risk assessments, to review and investigate occurrence reports, complete root cause analysis', review adverse and sentinel events, and patient care complications and to identify patient safety issues, potential liability concerns, and system's breakdowns. The Risk Manager will also complete formal grievances and participate in hospital surveys.
Essential Job Functions
Conduct investigations through clinician interview, medical record assessment and environment of care analysis for assigned patient care events categorized as near miss, adverse or sentinel events
Assist the Director of Risk Management & Patient Safety in conducting root cause analysis meetings
Facilitate follow-up task force and committee meetings to address risk and safety issues identified
Assist the Director of Risk Management & Patient Safety in conducting pro-active risk assessments for identified sections and departments on an annual basis
Link specific initiatives to reductions in claims frequency and severity trends with the goal of reducing malpractice related expenditures
Conducts educational sessions for faculty and staff on risk and safety related topics
Participates in hospital surveys
Provide support and consultation service to all staff on a rotating schedule for pager coverage 24/7
Facilitate disclosure conversations with clinicians and patient/family members
Participates in hospital committees representing Departmental issues and risk and safety concerns
Tracks and trends data and prepare risk/ patient safety reports and metrics for presentation at regularly scheduled meetings and for regular internal distribution
Performs other duties assigned
Required Qualifications
Excellent oral, writing, and interpersonal written communication skills
Strong organizing and data management skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, monitoring, and evaluation tools
Hospital experience of at least 3-5 years in a clinical role
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing (BSN)
Risk Management work experience of at least 2-3 years
RN License
