Responsible Sourcing and Sustainability Associate Position Overview: Brilliant Earth\xe2\x80\x99s Responsible Sourcing & Sustainability (RS&S) Team, led by the Head of Responsible Sourcing & Sustainability, oversees the Company\xe2\x80\x99s ESG and vendor compliance, ensuring adherence to our responsible sourcing standards, the social and environmental claims and commitments we make to our customers, and our ESG Goals. Mitigating the impacts of climate change is a monumental task, but it is vital that we take action and do our part to help the world achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement. The RS&S Team is part of the Legal & Compliance Team under the Company\xe2\x80\x99s General Counsel. The RS&S Associate will support BE\xe2\x80\x99s fundamental responsible sourcing and compliance programs, such as traceability in natural diamonds, lab diamonds, and recycled precious metals. The Associate\xe2\x80\x99s specialization will be greenhouse gas accounting, developing GHG data management and verification protocols, and they will be responsible for continuous improvement of internal processes and ensuring alignment with GHG protocol and other carbon accounting standards. The Associate will also provide other operational and administrative support for the Legal & Compliance Team. We\xe2\x80\x99re seeking an individual with an appetite to learn new skills and a self-starter who searches out answers and solutions. While this position is remote, ideal candidates will be based in either Denver, CO, San Francisco, CA or Secaucus, NJ. The targeted budget for this position is $65,0000 \xe2\x80\x93 80,000. This compensation budget range may be adjusted at any time at the discretion of the company. What you\xe2\x80\x99ll do: Greenhouse Gas Accounting

  • Help to build out and manage quantitative data collection processes including primary and secondary data, perform greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) inventory accounting, including emissions factor tracking of scopes 1, 2, and 3, and ensure accuracy and audibility of the data.
  • Generate insight from supply chain GHG data, provide support to the Head of RS&S in the development of a greening strategy for BE, and establish and deploy Science Based Targets.
  • Identify opportunities and monitor progress towards decarbonization plans and SBTi Targets developed in collaboration with business partners.
  • Stay up to date on current and emerging policy and regulatory drivers of GHG emissions disclosure and assist in developing annual ESG reporting contents to GRI and SASB disclosures.
Responsible Sourcing and Sustainability
  • Work with key internal stakeholders to ensure that vendor compliance is in accordance with company standards.
  • Coordinate with internal business partners (Product Vendor Manager of Loose Stone Procurement and Product Vendor Manager of Jewelry Production) and vendors to communicate compliance requirements, run regular compliance reviews of the various raw materials according to our standards and policies, and drive improvements in workflows.
Legal & Compliance
  • Assist with the implementation and execution of legal workflows like contracts, NDAs, and document retention processes.
  • Help prepare and process certain templatized legal agreements for signature and retention.
  • Support the team in managing the company\xe2\x80\x99s document retention and legal hold processes and assist with gathering documents cross-functionally as needed.
You\xe2\x80\x99re a great candidate if you have:
  • Technical knowledge of emissions inventory development, emissions reduction strategies, net zero targets, and supply chain decarbonization strategies in the private sector, including Scope 3 categories.
  • Knowledge in energy transition, renewables, carbon offsets, and other variables of climate transition including waste, water, and circularity.
  • Robust analytical, technical and database management skills and the ability to build and manage auditable record-keeping processes and use virtual data rooms to upload, manage, and organize documents.
  • Superb attention to detail and the ability to execute high-quality deliverables simultaneously with excellent time management skills and sense of prioritization.
  • Willingness to keep abreast of new developments in the field and commitment to learn new concepts and industry best practices within a fast-paced environment.
  • A constructive attitude toward tasks and challenges, ability to receive and provide constructive feedback, and an openness toward growth and change.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in environmental sciences or a related field, preferred. Additional specialized education in GHG accounting, preferred.
  • 3-5 years of professional work experience in a detail-oriented role involving compliance or supply chains.
  • 2+ years experience with GHG standards (GHG Protocol, TCFD, CDP), and familiarity with ESG/sustainability reporting standards (GRI, SASB).
  • Ability to work in an international environment across multiple times zones and cultures.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, in particular Excel.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and (written and verbal) communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and seek out solutions.
