Verland provides care for adults and children who have intellectual, medical and /or physical disabilities, in 47 homes across Southwestern Pennsylvania. A Residential Manager is primarily responsible for scheduling, assigning, and monitoring direct care workers based on the needs of the residents in their assigned home. This is a salaried, exempt position.

Residential Manager responsibilities:

  • Oversees day-to-day operations of the home to ensure that daily programs and activities are carried out.
  • Plans, organizes, and directs the operations of the house; reinforces the hierarchy of care and agency expectations.
  • Supervises Staff and ensures the implementation of the individual programs.
  • Monitors goal and procedural objectives implemented by direct care staff and reports findings to the Program Specialist/Program Specialist Manager/ Program Coordinator Manager.
  • Monitors direct care staff functions to ensure the safety and well-being of the individuals.
  • Maintains accurate reporting of incidents and thorough documentation of relevant details.
  • Initiates and/or implements employee disciplinary procedures.
  • Resolves disputes in a fair and timely fashion by following established Policies and Procedures.
  • Represents the department in various committees, i.e. infection control, safety, employee-management participation team.
  • Interacts within the community relative to the individual and group needs, i.e., activities, school transportation, medical visits, and tours.
  • Acts as a role model for appropriate employee dress and conduct per Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintains the safety of the individuals by recognizing conditions which present as safety or programmatic concerns.
  • Maintains high standard of quality care. Reviews and follows-up with Quality Management Program.
  • Fills in as a Direct Support Professional, as necessary, to maintain staffing requirements.
  • Reports all unusual problems to the Program Specialist/Coordinator/ Incident Manager
  • Trains and supervises newly hired direct care staff in the house and participates in the training and evaluation of assigned staff.
  • Ensures food menus and doctor-prescribed diets are followed and sufficient groceries are in the house, including grocery shopping as needed.
  • Makes certain that direct care staff complete required reports and documentation using stringent monitoring practices, training, and re-education of staff.
  • Ensures that all materials and supplies needed for the homes are available, including maintenance issues at assigned homes, as well as vehicle maintenance.
  • Conducts monthly fire drills as required by regulations.
  • Understands and complies with Verland\'s Mission and Policies and Procedures, and educates staff on Policies and Procedures.
  • As per Verland\'s privacy practices, access to individual/staff information is limited to what is necessary to perform job.
  • Processes, investigates and identifies the causes of injuries or incidents and creates a corrective action to prevent and protect individuals from similar future incidents.
  • Performs other related duties as required including but not limited to:
  • Monitors equipment switches, wheelchairs, PT equipment for breakage.
  • Forward broken equipment repair request to appropriate personnel.
  • Set up and maintain proper storage of the adaptive and PT/Speech equipment.
  • Identify equipment not being used, send to Maintenance department for storage or discard.
  • Maintain an inventory of individual\'s personal items and equipment.
  • Recommend goals using adaptive equipment to Program Specialist.
  • Program communication devices and troubleshoot problems with devices.
  • Completes Medication Administration Practicums, as needed, and completes weekly MAR reviews.
  • Monitors and accurately reports payroll.
  • Reports and completes all documents to include FML, Worker\'s Compensation, and Change of Status Forms.
  • Acts as a liaison between the Resident Services Department and other departments, families, and agencies.
  • Attends in-service training sessions and meetings as directed, including supervisory skill training.

Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor Degree is preferred.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of residential practices and an understanding of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written skills to communicate with individuals and staff.
  • Must possess an understanding of basic principles of administrative functions; and plan, coordinate, and supervise staff-related activities.
  • Must establish an effective working relationship with all those with whom the departments come in contact such as: other internal departments, parents/families of the individuals, and various community contacts.
  • Must demonstrate strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required:
  • Knowledge of cooking skills, including materials used and ability to follow menus and directions.
  • Ability to carry out planned social, recreational, work, and study activities for a limited number of individuals.
  • Ability to cope with day to day problems and to record and report observations of individual\'s progress, responses, etc.
  • Ability to maintain an empathetic attitude toward the individuals served.
  • Ability to learn sign language.
  • Ability to feed, bathe, dress and provide all personal care for consumers.
  • Ability to comprehend and carry out oral and written instructions, correspondence and memos. Ability to efficiently write correspondence and reports. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
Up to 2 weeks paid training is provided by Verland, to educate new hires on daily living skills, social engagement, personal hygiene skills, along with each individual\'s support plan/ personal development goals that are essential to improve the daily lives of the individuals that we serve.
