We are seeking a Residential Assistant to work part-time on Friday and Saturday nights, 11pm-7am, providing caregiving and supervision to older adults with intellectual disabilities and autism.
Minimum requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent
Able to pass a drug screen
Able to pass a background check (no felonies, no abuse or neglect)
Overall Essential Functions:
Engage with students/residents through hands-on activities and modeling with cognitively appropriate expectations.
Ensure that student goals and behavior plans are being followed and documented according to prescribed guidelines.
Assist students with daily living activities to ensure that student is practicing skills but also that student is clean and hygiene needs are met.
Responsible for providing a warm, family and home-like environment for all students by keeping residential spaces clean, reporting maintenance issues, reporting needs for replacement items and treating students with dignity and respect at all times.
Ensure a smooth transition between shifts by being on-time, organized and ready for students.
Prior to completing shift perform a walk-through of entire residence and complete any paperwork to ensure that all shift duties have been completed.
Communicate with appropriate supervisor to provide input and suggestions that result in effective program implementation.
Communicate between shifts and departments any pertinent information regarding students, planned activities or programming needs to ensure that consistency in student care is provided.
Responsible for administering medications as prescribed and on time, completing any medical administration records in the event that clinical staff are not present.
Be present at the scheduled time, dressed according to policy guidelines and flexible on working where the needs of the program are the greatest.
Complete 24 hours of accredited in-service training annually.
Additional Shift Specific Essential Functions:
Midnights (all shifts) - cleaning, ready in the AM,
Follow a nightly cleaning checklist and be sure all tasks are complete by the end of shift.
Complete nightly bed checks for students as designated.
Assist students in getting up, dressed and ready for the day each morning, including days for offcampus activities.

Communicate verbally and in writing, with all individuals associated with KDS.
Kneel, bend and clean on knees; move furniture and lift items that weigh at least 40 lbs.; stock shelves which includes being able to lift items over your head and stack them onto shelves; mopping, sweeping, and moving chairs, tables and appliances.
Additional Requirements:
Performs other essential and marginal job functions as assigned.
This position may require use of KDS vehicles in transporting students and occasionally personal vehicles on KDS business (non-transporting) and therefore requires a valid class D driver's license.
Acceptable Experience and Training:
Be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or its equivalent with proof of education prior to employment.
One year of training or experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
Be in good health and free of mental and/or physical limitations which would interfere in dealing appropriately with the client's handicapping conditions and behavior disorders.
Provide evidence of a current TB Skin Test upon hire and prior to first day of employment.
Handle With Care Training upon hire and prior to first day of contact with students and maintain certification.
CPR/First Aid training upon hire and maintain certification.
Medication Administration Training and Driver Training may be required based on the needs of the program.
