Temp Status Position:

State employment temporary status equals up to 29 hours per week for a total of 999 hours or one year. Sooner Job Challenge has the option to renew the temp hours annually.

The Sooner Job ChalleNGe Program is a highly complex operation, which has the responsibility of recruiting, housing, training, mentoring, and providing for the safety, security, and medical well-being of up to 60 associates aged 16 to 20. The Program combines classroom work, technical school training, community service, physical training, and team-building activities to enhance the life-skills and employability potential of these youth. Additional major elements of the program are: career skills, healthy living, drug abuse awareness, leadership/followership, discipline, physical fitness, practical job skills training and character development. This program is a 24-hour per day, 7-day per week operation.

Job Summary:

The Sooner Job Challenge Program is seeking dedicated and motivated applicants to guide and mentor Associates aged 16 to 20 years old. As a Residential Advisor, you will play a vital role in supporting the program's mission to instill discipline, leadership, and responsibility in young adults. The ideal candidate will lead by example, provide positive reinforcement and help Associates reach their personal, professional and academic goals.

Shift work is required and shifts could vary depending on program needs.

Essential Functions:

Under administrative supervision monitors and supervises 35 to 45 youth (ages 17 - 20) in the Oklahoma Job ChalleNGe Program (Sooner Job Challenge Program) Maintains accountability of assigned platoon at all times Maintains discipline, security, and safety within a quasi-military atmosphere Develops a team-oriented attitude within the Associates Mentor/role model for those assigned cadets during the residential phase of the program Conducts first line counseling and problem solving for those assigned Associates and is the primary instructor in Drill and Ceremony and group living skills Directs and participates in physical training Provides transportation and supervision for Associates attending vocational training Maintains supporting documentation and evaluations for those assigned Associates

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Military background preferred, but not necessary.

Non-military applicants must be open to learning and adopting knowledge of military structure and procedures, including customs and courtesies, marching, drill and ceremony, physical fitness and leadership principals.

Education and Experience:

High School diploma or equivalent - Degree not required. Please list experience working or volunteering with adolescents on your resume.

Licenses/Certificates required:

Valid Drivers License.

Physical Requirements:

Requires long periods of standing and walking indoors and outdoors throughout the day Working in conditions of both high and low temperatures Ability to climb stairs Ability to run a mile and walk extended distances Ability to do pushups, side straddle hops, sit ups and other physical training and fitness activities Ability to lead or participate in physical training Ability to drive or ride in a vehicle for extended distances

Conditions of Employment:

Serves a 12 month trial period Contingent on a favorable NCIC/OSBI background check Contingent on passing pre-employment drug & alcohol screening Contingent on a favorable pre-employment physical Contingent on a favorable MMPI test T1, child care check security clearance

Serve a 12-month trial period Employee will be considered essential personnel (required to work during inclement weather) Available to work if called in due to an emergency Shift work and working weekends (facility open 24 hours, 7 days a week) Must maintain a valid driver's license

Notes:

This position is located at Sooner Job Challenge in Oklahoma City, OK.

Travel may be required at the expense of the employee to be reimbursed within 45 days of travel. Employment eligibility verified through e-Verify (Homeland Security), and a National Agency Check for positions that require computer access.
