Under general supervision performs a variety of duties involved in the enforcement of laws and the prevention of crimes, to conduct and participate in general investigation of crimes, accidents, and cases, to control traffic flow and enforce State and local traffic regulation to perform a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of the department and performs other related law enforcement activities as required.

EMPLOYMENT GUIDELINES:

Knowledge of:

Applicable laws; Modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques and equipment. Federal, State and local laws and regulations regarding civil, criminal and traffic violations. Conduct of law enforcement operations including arrest, search, seizure incarceration interrogation, investigation and use of force. Appropriate instantaneous responses to life-threatening and otherwise volatile law enforcement situations. Safe and appropriate use of firearms and other weapons; Public relations and conduct.

Ability to:

Read and write the English language. Learn the ordinances, department rules and regulations. Perform work requiring good physical condition. Accurately aim and fire a weapon. Stabilize crime scenes and other disorderly or dangerous situations using the least inflammatory methods available. Write thorough reports of incidents and investigations. Communicate tactfully and effectively orally and in writing with the full range of persons that may be contacted in the course of performing assigned duties. Establish and maintain effective working relationships. Exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions. Follow verbal and written instructions. Operate and maintain, in proper operating condition, a police patrol car, assigned weapons, and other specially assigned equipment. Learn the City\'s streets, buildings and geography.

Licenses/Certificates: Certificate of completion from either Basic Academy or successful Completion of Modules I, II & III. Possession of a valid and appropriate California driver\'s license issued by the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles.

Education/Experience/Training: Any combination of education, experience, and training which would likely provide the required knowledges and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain these knowledges and abilities would be: Equivalent to graduation from the twelfth grade and satisfactory completion of the California Peace Officers Standards Training. Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) is desirable.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS

The employee is frequently required to sit, talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be a non-user of tobacco and shall be required to sign a statement affirming that, as a condition of continued employment, employee shall refrain from using tobacco.

The employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places; with explosives; and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme

heat, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The duties listed above

are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.

Supplemental Information

Position starts at $15.50/hour, after successful completion of field training hourly rate is $24.38/hour. Within one year of employment, employee must reside within a 40 mile radius of the City limits.
