Boston University School of Public Health, Department of Health Law, Policy and Management supports a wide range of faculty-driven research. This position will support a multidisciplinary research team aimed at studying the health, social, and economic effects of sports wagering and casino gaming. This position has a defined end date of September 30, 2028, subject to the availability of funding.
The
Data Analyst
willsupport a variety of research activities under the supervision of the team's investigators. Activities will include extracting, merging, and cleaning data from numerous survey, administrative, and other data sources, performing statistical analyses on primary and secondary datasets, and communicating about data and analytical issues orally and in writing.
The analyst will independently conduct analytic work using the statistical programs Stata and R, and the position requires familiarity with biostatistical and/or econometric techniques. This work involves cleaning and organizing large data sets, conducting regression analyses, and creating tables and reports describing the results.
Essential Functions
Participate in the development and coordination of analytic activities including project development and design, data analyses, and planning for current and future research proposals.
Build analytical datasets using survey, casino, and administrative (e.g., employment and wages, municipal revenue and expenditures) data sources.
Clean and transform the data; conduct statistical/econometric analyses.
Participate in meetings and briefings, prepare report summaries, follow up with project staff and experts to gather additional information, and identify the themes for next steps in data collection and analysis.
Monitor, summarize and distribute to project staff the relevant literature and information produced by researchers, policy makers, sites, and other experts in the field.
Prepare presentations, manuscripts, methodological descriptions, proposals, IRB applications, data use agreements, and required reports in collaboration with project staff.

Bachelor's Degree required with 2-3 years of experience, master's degree preferred. Degree in Public Health, Statistics, Economics, Public Policy, Health Services Research, Social Sciences, Epidemiology, or a related field requiring an understanding of statistics and research methodology.
1-5 years' experience conducting data analyses.
Requires an understanding of Stata and R; comfort using Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
Field experience may include program evaluation, survey research, experience in authoring publications and presentations and in database management and statistical modeling.
Position is located in Boston, MA, with a flexible, hybrid in-person and remote work schedule. Position is availability immediately with a desired start date of on or before January 31, 2026.
