Nanoscience Analytical is a contract analytical and R&D laboratory supporting a wide variety of clients across materials science, energy storage, coatings, nanotechnology, medical devices, and advanced manufacturing. In addition to providing characterization services--including scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and surface analysis techniques--we conduct R&D projects centered on electrospinning and nanofiber material development. Our work spans diverse materials and applications, giving early-career scientists broad exposure to hands-on experimentation and real-world problem solving.
Position Overview
The
Research Associate
role is an entry-level position that blends lab coordination duties with practical lab technician responsibilities. This is a great opportunity for someone early in their career who enjoys being hands-on in the lab, is comfortable working with chemical formulations, and is motivated to learn techniques related to materials development and SEM imaging. You will help keep daily operations running smoothly while assisting with experimental work, sample preparation, and general lab support.
Key Responsibilities
Lab Coordination
Maintain overall lab cleanliness, organization, and readiness for daily use
Manage consumables, chemical inventory, and coordinate reordering
Track incoming/outgoing samples and maintain clear documentation for R&D and analytical projects
Support equipment scheduling, routine checks, and basic maintenance tasks
Assist with safety compliance (chemical handling, waste logging, safety documentation)
Technical Responsibilities
Prepare basic chemistry formulations (solutions, dispersions, polymer blends) used in electrospinning and sample preparation
Assist with electrospinning equipment setup, operation support, and nanofiber material preparation (training provided)
Perform routine sample preparation for characterization (cutting, mounting, cleaning, sputter coating)
Operate laboratory instrumentation for material analysis of internal and external samples
Maintain accurate notes, data logs, and sample traceability
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
0-2 years of laboratory experience (academic or internship experience welcome)
Comfortable handling chemicals and following established safety protocols
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Interest in learning materials characterization and electrospinning techniques
Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a small, collaborative team
What We Offer
Hands-on training with SEM and other analytical tools
