The UCLA Labor Occupational Safety and Health (LOSH) Program is dedicated to promoting worker health, safety, and wellbeing, and building capacity for workers and worker organizations to take action to improve working conditions. LOSH offers high-quality training and education, participatory action research, policy analysis, and worker leadership development to advance worker rights and protections. LOSH is a unit of both the Institute for Research and Labor and Employment (IRLE) and the Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (COEH).
The Research Associate contributes to LOSH research on worker safety and health and employment issues in California, with a particular focus on low-wage, immigrant, and/or non-English-speaking workers and those in high-risk industries. They assist with implementing discrete research activities in support of LOSH research initiatives and in close coordination with the LOSH Research Analyst and labor and community-based partners. Responsibilities include assisting with project planning and coordination; convening meetings with project contributors; creating research tools in English and Spanish; collecting and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data; summarizing and presenting results for various audiences; and contributing to written reports, publications, and grant proposals. The Research Associate represents LOSH in in community meetings and professional conferences, and participates in LOSH organizational and staff development initiatives.
