Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Associate to join our Pharmacology team. The ideal candidate will contribute to the development and evaluation of new anti-infective agents, focusing on understanding their mechanism(s) of action and efficacy against various pathogens.
Working under the guidance of senior scientists, the Research Associate will assist in executing study protocols, maintaining detailed records, and supporting data analysis. This position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in anti-infective pharmacology while contributing directly to programs aimed at combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
Detailed Description:
Key Responsibilities:
Experimental Design and Execution: Assist in the design, conduct, and analysis of experiments to assess the activity of anti-infective compounds against bacterial and fungal pathogens, including in vitro microbiological and pharmacological assays, and in vivo studies.
Studies in Animal systems: Utilize appropriate animal models to evaluate the pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and therapeutic efficacy of anti-infective agents. Data Analysis: Utilize statistical software to analyze experimental data and interpret results, ensuring accuracy and reproducibility.
Literature Review: Conduct literature reviews to confirm research strategies and verify emerging trends in anti-infective pharmacology.
Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including microbiologists, bioanalytical chemists, medicinal chemists, and clinical researchers, to support drug discovery and development projects. Ability to interact in a positive, and collaborative spirit, with work colleagues is essential.
Documentation and Reporting: Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and participate in scientific discussions to communicate research findings to internal and external stakeholders.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all research activities adhere to institutional and regulatory guidelines, maintaining high standards of laboratory safety and ethical practices.
Continuous Learning: Stay current with advancements in anti-infective therapies and related fields through ongoing education and participation in relevant conferences.
Other projects and tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or a related field is preferred.
Must have previous vivarium experience utilizing rodent models. Strong preference for prior experience working with BSL-2 agents, especially bacterial pathogens.
Experience in a laboratory setting, particularly in pharmacology, microbiology, or drug development, and experience designing and conducting pharmacology experiments in preclinical animal systems are preferred. Good aseptic technique is required.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in laboratory techniques (e.g., antimicrobial susceptibility testing) and data analysis software.
Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey complex scientific information.
