Job Description

Position Purpose


In collaboration with project leaders, the Research Assistant will coordinate the implementation and ongoing activities for a large National Institute of Health (NIH) funded Environmental influences on Children's Health Outcome (ECHO) birth cohort study. This candidate chosen for this position will perform a wide variety of research study/office activities to increase research study/office efficiency, expedite/coordinate the work of others, and ensure the smooth operation of the research study/office. The Research Assistant will assist with procedures related to the collection, tracking, storage, shipping and analysis of environmental and biological specimens and data, and may interact with study participants, assist with development and updates of research study materials (study protocols), maintenance of study databases, and day to day study management.


Required Qualifications


Bachelor's degree in health or social sciences, or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required. 1-2 year(s) of research experience or equivalent combination of education and experience Must complete educational requirements for Dartmouth Committee on the Protection of Human Subjects (IRB) upon hire and appropriate laboratory, safety and/or any other training(s) required to conduct the research. Demonstrated ability to coordinate a complex research project with minimal supervision. Demonstrates a high degree of independence and responsibility for ensuring timely completion of project activities. Proficiency with Microsoft Suite and web-based applications. Ability to apply critical thinking and sound judgment to address open-ended problems. Superior verbal communication and writing skills.
Proven ability to manage multiple competing priorities.



Preferred Qualifications


Two years of relevant research experience, bachelor's degrees with major in Biological/Health or Social Sciences.

Key Accountabilities

Key Accountabilities


Study Supplies 50%

Coordinates a variety of activities to support research study functions such as shipping and receiving study materials and samples. Assembles and tracks inventory of biospecimen collection kits for the study. Orders study supplies and maintains organized inventory.





Study Forms/Files - 40%

Follows up on missing data and samples with study participants. Assures that data are successfully collected and managed. Assures that subject and data confidentiality is maintained, and data integrity is assured. Establishes and maintains study files and databases (e.g. study data, completed forms, materials, correspondence) to ensure confidentiality, accuracy and accessibility of information. Maintains and updates databases for tracking of study materials, collection, shipment, and analysis. Generates reports as needed.



Miscellaneous - 10%

May meet study participants at clinic visits for obtain samples and other study materials. May conduct interviews and enroll study participants to provide back-up staffing as needed and/or conduct medical record review. Assists supervisor in planning work that can be completed by students.
