What you will do:

We\xe2\x80\x99re one of the largest news operations in Virginia, with coverage from Richmond to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. That\xe2\x80\x99s a big audience \xe2\x80\x94 looking for both statewide and hyperlocal coverage

We aim for ambitious journalism that makes an impact on Virginians\xe2\x80\x99 lives. Our reporters have won numerous national awards in the past five years for strong watchdog and investigative work

We are passionate about what we do here and are committed to both serving readers and helping our journalists take chances and develop new skills

What you will bring:

You must have strong news judgment, a collaborative approach and a desire to get the story swiftly and accurately

You know how to build a beat through strong sourcing and understand the need to not only write stories about institutions or systems but those who are affected by their decisions

You appreciate the depth and variety a beat offers readers, from quick hits to breaking news to features and explanatory stories

You must be able to thrive in our fast-paced operation and capable of producing a variety of content: photos and videos, tweets, short updates for web, and print stories with deep context

A college degree is required

At least two years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in daily journalism is preferred
