Summary:
The Baltimore Sun seeks an industrious and persistent reporter to cover breaking news. This journalist will cover a wide variety of topics \xe2\x80\x94 from traditional breaking news, such as crime, fires and accidents, to timely reports driven by our awareness of what readers want and need to know. This reporter also will develop their own enterprise pieces, telling stories about the Baltimore region you can\xe2\x80\x99t find anywhere else.
What you will do:
Report breaking news as it happens \xe2\x80\x93 quickly, fairly and accurately
Pitch and develop enterprise stories
Cultivate trust among a network of diverse sources
Share news, engage with and grow a network of followers on social media
Ability to leverage relationships with sources to deliver content that differentiates the organization from competitors
Work with The Sun\xe2\x80\x99s newsroom team to tell stories in a variety of media \xe2\x80\x94 such as photo galleries, videos, audio, data visualizations and other interactive tools
This job sometimes requires work early in the morning, late in the evening and on the weekends
What you will bring:
One to three years of reporting experience at a daily news organization
Advanced writing skills and the ability to tell a story
Excellent news judgment
An understanding of journalistic ethics
Proven ability to build an audience via social media
Familiarity with and interest in the Baltimore area
Working knowledge of photo and video
Ability to work remotely
Has reliable transportation
