REPARATION OFFICER
RETURN UTAH PROGRAM
The Utah Office for Victims of Crime is seeking a Reparation Officer to support the agency in providing financial compensation for victims of crime. The Reparation Officer acts as an information resource and contact person for victims and their families. The Reparation Officer has many responsibilities, including: reviewing applications, reading police reports, reviewing insurance billing codes, verifying cooperation throughout the court process when applicable, staffing cases, and ultimately making determinations on claims. The Reparations officer must be a team player and a hard worker, who collaborates with colleagues to serve the claimants seeking benefits through our office.
In addition, the Reparation Officer
Follows State of Utah Statute and Administrative Rules, in regard to claim management and determination of payment eligibility.
Managing payments to various service providers and claimants.
May represent UOVC or provide presentations to civic, industry and special interest groups.
Return Utah Program
This candidate chosen for this position will be part of The Return Utah program, which is a formal career reentry program, designated for Utahns reentering the workforce after a career break. The program is tied to this job that you are applying for, meaning that along with a new role and traditional on-the-job training, candidates hired will receive 16 weeks of transitional support (which includes an office technology review, coaching, career development opportunities, mentorship, networking opportunities and job market readiness training).
This is a temporary position, approximately 16-20 weeks, at the Utah Office for Victims of Crime (UOVC). While the Return Utah program will provide access to resources that will enable you to explore further employment opportunities, your participation does not guarantee employment with the state of Utah upon conclusion of the program.
*This position is not eligible for remote work*
Ideal Candidate
Bilingual with fluency in English and Spanish
Eligible for The Return Utah program - Must have prior professional/life experience and/or qualifying skills suitable for the job's functional area of interest AND currently fit under one of the following categories:
A career break of one year or more at the time of application OR,
Confirm military affiliation (as a service member, veteran, spouse or partner) OR
Be underemployed at the time of application
2+ years of work experience with victim services
Bachelor's degree in social science field or criminal justice or equivalent work Experience
Have knowledge of medical codes (CPT codes) and insurance processes.
Be capable of following best accounting and recordkeeping principles determined by the State of Utah.
Be proficient in math and data systems
Must have excellent intrapersonal communication skills, both written and in-person.
Preferred Candidate Profile
Receives, researches and responds to incoming questions or complaints; provides information, explains policy and procedures, and/or facilitates a resolution with the claimants requesting resources.
Provides clients with information concerning rights, options, benefits, services, goals and expectations.
Conducts interviews to gather or clarify information.
Acts as a facilitator in problem solving situations; provides information to those seeking assistance and suggests alternatives/solutions and assists others in solving problems.
Interprets, clarifies, explains and applies agency policy and procedures, business practices, federal or state laws and regulations, etc.
Reviews applications and supporting documentation.
Determine claim and payment eligibility.
Writes or drafts correspondence, reports, notes, staff meeting minutes, documents, tutorials and/or other written materials necessary to complete job functions.
Primary Duties
Handling incoming queries and complaints, conducting research, and providing informative responses, thereby elucidating policies and procedures to stakeholders.
Furnishing clients with comprehensive information regarding their rights, available options, benefits, and service provisions.
Engaging with clients via phone, email, and in-person interactions.
Demonstrating adept critical thinking skills while managing a substantial caseload autonomously.
Serving as a facilitator in resolving problems, suggesting alternative solutions, and assisting individuals in navigating complex issues.
Interpreting and applying agency policies, business practices, and pertinent federal or state laws and regulations.
Evaluating applications and accompanying documentation to ascertain claim and payment eligibility.
Crafting various written materials, including correspondence, reports, and documents.
Collaborating closely with fellow Reparation Officers to assess intricate cases and make determinations.
