Rental Assistance Specialist (PT)

Starting Pay: $16.00/hour

Hours: approx. 15 hours per week

PURPOSE/GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Rental Assistance Specialist is responsible for assisting Scott, Jennings, Jefferson County tenants and landlords by working together to prevent homelessness and preserve tenancies. This position will work with an internal team and have a strong ability to coordinate with other agencies, as needed, to assist clients in reaching their goals. The Rental Assistance Specialist will assist clients in completing the appropriate paperwork to expedite payment and avoid eviction. Working together with the clients and landlords ensures that all qualifying clients receive appropriate assistance in a timely manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Advocate for your client in conversation with direct service providers and landlords
  • Assist clients with completing Indiana Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) applications
  • Assist client in filling out appropriate paperwork regarding eviction assistance
  • Submit necessary documentation with referrals for client assistance
  • Understanding of private and subsidized housing market
  • Case Evaluation in order to provide referrals for other NHS programs, as well as other social services agencies
  • Assist clients with case management and housing search on an as needed basis
  • Maintain client intake paperwork
  • Follow up with your clients and the agencies you referred them to about necessary documents, additional support, or answers to their questions within 24 hours until eviction is no longer a threat
  • Participate in resource gathering with community providers to continue to learn about available financial assistance, legal support, and other resources
  • Assistance in completing funding requirements and applications for funds
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor
GENERAL DUTIES:
  • Work well with other NHDS/NHS staff to plan and implement projects, as well as compile and analyze data
  • Attend and participate in department and other meetings and special events, and serve on assigned committees, as appropriate to achieve NHDS/NHS goals and objectives
  • Be thoroughly familiar with all Policies and Procedures of New Hope Services, Inc.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to learn new software quickly
  • Demonstrated experience working with culturally and economically diverse groups of people
  • Sensitivity toward the needs and challenges of families served
  • A commitment to our core values, creativity, and the desire to be a champion of those living in chronic poverty
EDUCATION/YEARS OF EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in social work or other related field preferred
  • Knowledge of the United Community referral platform preferred
