Job Description

Shifts are 8am-8pm. All days of the week are currently available. Pick at least 2 days.

Compensation $21-$27/hr depending on experience and education level.

Paid training is provided.

4-week paid trial period.

Duties



Provide assistance with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and grooming Perform light housekeeping duties including cleaning, laundry, and tidying up Help with medication reminders and ensure proper administration Provide companionship and emotional support to the client Help patient with physical and speech therapy exercises

Requirements



Interest or previous experience in caregiving or health care Ability to follow instructions and work independently Responsive and open to supervision and feedback Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Warm, compassionate and patient demeanor Ability to handle confidential information with discretion Reliable transportation to the client's home Professional references Ability to converse with non-verbal clients Attention to detail

Nice to have



Undergraduate degree, or currently enrollment in an undergraduate program, especially in the health field Experience with clients with brain injury or other neurological disorders. Experience helping clients with assigned occupational, physical and speech therapy activities. Experience working in a private home setting.
The caregiving recipient is 83 years old. He had a stroke 2 years ago. He is paralyzed on his right side. He can understand what's said to him but cannot use words to communicate. He can eat and breathe normally and without assistance. He is very social, friendly, and emotionally expressive. He was still working and was very independent and physically active, up until the stroke. He is 5'8", 165 lbs.

Tasks



These include toileting, personal hygiene, oral care, repositioning, helping physical, occupational, and speech therapy, transfer between bed, wheelchair, and commode using an electric sit-to-stand lift.

Expectations of the candidate



Should be a warm, friendly, caring, reliable, and communicative person; physically able, with an eye for detail, and the ability to learn from experience, observation, and experimentation. Should be able to lift about 40 lbs, have no major back problems, and have reliable transportation because the patient's house is in a residential area (Amherst Woods) with limited public transportation access. May be expected to wear an N-95 mask while working, when and if contagion levels in the community are high. Up-to-date COVID and flu vaccination are preferred. No strong fragrances or perfumes while working. No phone calls or using a smartphone while working, other than when on break or for emergencies. Wear scrubs. Short fingernails. Long hair should be kept secured (e.g., tied back or pinned up) while on duty to maintain a safe and professional work environment.

Pay: $21.00 - $27.00 per hour
