Shift: PT 20 hours per week afternoon shift 2:30p-10:30p 2 days one week and 3 days the second week of the pay period, every 3rd weekend (shift 3p-11p) and holiday rotation (typically one holiday a year). There will be call on the weekend rotation as well. This position is general ultrasound only, no OB or vascular exams.
The Registered/Registry Eligible Sonographer is responsible for supporting the Mission and Vision of Crittenton Hospital Medical Center (CHMC) by, under the direction of a Radiologist, performs diagnostic sonographic procedures at a technical level, not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment. May be assigned as an instructor in areas of specific competence. Responsibilities: Essential Functions| Maintains a positive and professional atmosphere for patients. Demonstrates interpersonal skills necessary in order to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical or emotional stress and gather and exchange patient information with nursing personnel and physicians.| Reviews patient chart, physicians' order/diagnosis, and the results of previous diagnostic studies as appropriate and records patient's personal and medical information on history sheets.| Selects appropriate equipment and proper technical factors on an individual patient basis according to specific orders and part of body to be examined. Assists patient in assuming physical position for required examination. Provides immobilization as required and protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards. Explains test procedure to patient to elicit cooperation and allay apprehensions.| Records images using proper identification information and sends results of sonography to physician for interpretation. May discuss test results with physician or request physician to personally view screen image.| Assists physicians in performance of other related examinations such as amniocentesis, cyst puncture, thoracentesis, etc. Assists in performing first aid as necessary.| Practices sterile techniques and prevents cross contamination. Maintains orderliness and cleanliness, including provision for the contamination-free condition of rooms, equipment and personnel.| Prepares and stocks work area as required to perform procedures as assigned/requested. Assure a safe and clean environment for patients at all times. Secures and returns supplies. Maintains room stock.| Reports equipment failure directly to BioMed or service representative, using proper forms and maintaining appropriate records.| Responsible for delegated areas of authority in the performance of routine or special procedures.| May be responsible for specific areas of instruction of new employees and supervision of students when necessary.| Cooperates with all department personnel in a positive and professional manner.| Serves on specific committees dealing with clinical and Quality Assurance issues as requested.| Performs a variety of clerical tasks as necessary.| Receives verbal orders for examinations from a responsible practitioner within the bounds of registry.| Maintains professional appearance by adhering to Dress and Grooming Policy and Dress Code of Radiology Services.| Handles equipment in a responsible, professional manner.| Non-Essential Functions| May be required to assist in the development of technical factors and image selection.| May assist in the use of a variety of equipment or procedure not specific to Ultrasound.| Maintains Continuing Education Credits as required by the RDMS registry as well as BLS.| Assures the "two step" identification of all patients before proceeding with the requested examination. Explains the procedure to the patients before and during as required.| This position requires the ability to identify age related differences within the persons served and the adjustment of treatment style and expectations as appropriate, including adjustments based on the person's served cognitive function and learning ability. This will include taking into account their religious and cultural needs and preferences.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
High school diploma/GED with 2 years of experience, or Associate's degree, or Technical certificate/degree required
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED
BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
One or more of the following required: Cardiographic Tech credentialed from the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Radiologic Technologist specializing in Sonography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Medical Sonographer credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. ARDMS Registered Experience with Siemens equipment Experience with procedures Ability to work in a high pace hospital setting
