Job Summary and Qualifications

The Respiratory Therapist coordinates and delivers high-quality, patient-centered respiratory care in accordance with the nature and specific requirements of the department, and consistent with the scope and standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. As a vital part of the patient care team, the Respiratory Therapist performs a variety of diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures and monitors patients receiving invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation.

Under general supervision of the Manager of Cardiopulmonary and under the guidance of qualified Pulmonologist, this position exists to assure principle responsibility for the respiratory assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of each patient assigned. The RRT cares for patients in the age ranges as listed: neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric.
  • Maintains department supply levels by providing needs to the Manager of Cardiopulmonary.
  • Assists with the orientation of new personnel.
  • Maintains equipment and rentals.
  • Scans all medications/patients using eMAR prior to medication delivery.
  • Assists in completion of Quality Assessment and improvement activity including planning for course of action to resolve problems that are identified.
  • Provides general supervision of Respiratory Students from affiliated programs while on duty.
  • Initiate, administer and monitor all modalities of Respiratory Care as identified in the department policy and procedure manual.
  • Completes documentation of therapy appropriately.
  • Accurately verifies order.
  • Adheres to shift specific responsibilities.
  • Participates in CPR as functional member of the code team: adheres to ACLS protocols.
  • Performs diagnostic testing, including EKGs, apply Holter monitor and Pulmonary Function.
  • Obtains arterial blood gases and performs analysis.
  • Performs troubleshooting and assists with routine maintenance including cartridge replacement for blood gas machine.
  • Maintains current ACLS/CPR certification and licensure.
  • Assists the Manager of CP in inservices education topics related to Respiratory Care.
  • Reports all equipment malfunctions to the Department Manager.
  • Adheres to and complies with HCA\'s ethics and compliance policies in the Code of Conduct. Attends annual training sessions.
What qualifications you will need:

Experience:
  • Prefer 1 year experience as a therapist in an acute care facility - new grads will be considered
Education:
  • Graduate of an AMA approved school of Respiratory Care
Qualifications:
  • State of Texas Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner certification required.
  • Certified by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Spt must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • THIS IS A NIGHT SHIFT POSITION - Must be able to work nights and rotating weekends
