This position will serve as a RN Supervisor A in the 64-bed Skilled Nursing Unit (SNU) at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center, a level 1 care facility, which employs approximately 662 classified employees and houses approximately 1,792 Inmates.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a current Louisiana Registered Nurse license or a temporary permit or multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state to practice as a registered nurse plus one of the following:



Three years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR



A bachelor's degree in nursing plus two years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR



A master's degree in nursing or public health plus two years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR



A doctorate in nursing or public health plus one year of experience as a licensed registered nurse.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

Provides first line supervision over professional nurses and lower level nursing personnel on assigned shift. Assumes shift responsibility for patient assignments and care of patients for assigned unit. Provides nursing care and utilizing the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the provision of direct patient care to Inmates. Administers medications and treatments in a timely manner and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Conducts nursing assessments via nursing rounds and communicates with the provider regarding the patient's condition to ensure a timely and accurate disposition. Initiates and reviews nursing plan of care for all patients and ensures that treatments and therapies specified in the plans are carried out. Receives health care practitioner's instructions regarding patient care and ensure that orders are transmitted to other units as needed.

Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted. An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted. This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.

Premium Pay rate up to $5.00 per hour for each hour worked based on years of service with DOC, in addition to regular pay.
