Avera is looking for a Registered Nurse (RN) \xe2\x80\x93 Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist to join our Team!

Job Summary
  • The RN Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist (CDIS) role performs medical record reviews, on assigned patient care units, examining and assessing all patient documentation to ensure that all information, including the illness diagnosis is accurately documented.
  • This position is complex and requires expert knowledge of clinical care and applicable coding guidelines, as well as an ability to communicate effectively with the clinical team.
  • The CDIS reviews inpatient medical records while patients are still in-house (concurrent review) for proper documentation as it relates to revenue cycle elements (DRG,SOI, LOS, etc).
  • This review includes new admissions to the facility, as well as reviewing any medical records referred by inpatient coder or quality.
  • The CDIS collaborates with clinicians, physicians and HIM coding staff to ensure timely and accurate documentation. Demonstrates a willingness to maintain awareness of the business of medicine and transitional healthcare changes including but not limited to value-based purchasing, bundled payments, accountable care organizations and the readmission reduction program.
Education and/or Experience
  • Graduate from a CCNE or NLN accredited nursing program is strongly preferred. Graduate from an approved nursing program is acceptable.
  • Bachelor\'s degree in nursing preferred.
  • Four years related inpatient clinical experience preferred. Knowledge of hospital revenue cycle and the electronic health record strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, is self-motivated, and adapts to the changing healthcare arena.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, analytical thinking, and problem solving with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in computer use, including database and spreadsheet analysis, presentation programs, word processing, and Internet search preferred.
Licensure/Certification/Registration
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of South Dakota and/or meeting the requirements of Multi-state licensure is required.
  • Membership in a professional organization preferred.
  • Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) from the Association of Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialists (ACDIS) required. If not certified, will be required to obtain certification within two years of employment.
Work Schedule
  • Monday-Friday, 7:00am-7:00pm; 72 hours every 2 weeks
Pay

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
  • $29.50 - $44.25 per hour
