Job Summary

Position responsible for serving in a leadership role and as a clinical expert in the delivery and management of patient care and is trained to competently care for pediatric patients with complex diagnosis. Collaborates with the physician and healthcare team in the delivery of patient care, utilizing the nursing process. Provides professional nursing care to patients, including conducting nursing assessments, assisting with exams and treatment, patient education, and maintenance of medical records.

The Critical Care Transport team at Children\'s Memorial Hermann consists of highly trained RNs specializing in safe transport of our most critical, medically fragile patients across the Gulf Coast.

We are seeking experienced RNs to join our growing Night team. As a part of this specialized team, you will assist with stabilization and transitioning care from the bedside through ground/air transit.

Experience in Children\'s Critical Care and patient transport is highly desired. Flexible schedule and weekend coverage is required. 3+ years of critical care pediatric experience is a MUST

BSN Highly preferred, NRP or PALS highly preferred.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing; Bachelors of Nursing preferred

Licenses/Certifications:

Pediatric Transport RN:

  • Current State of Texas license or temporary/compact license to practice professional nursing
  • Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Certified Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) preferred
  • Required to obtain within 18 months of hire: Certified Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), Certification in Neonatal Pediatric Transport (C-NPT), Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC)
Neonatal Transport RN:
  • Current State of Texas license or temporary/compact license to practice professional nursing
  • Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Registered Nurse Certified-Neonatal Intensive Care Certification (RNC-NIC) preferred
  • Required to obtain within 18 months of hire: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Registered Nurse Certified-Neonatal Intensive Care Certification (RNC-NIC), Certification in Neonatal Pediatric Transport (C-NPT)
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
  • RN III = 3-10 years
  • RN IV = 10+ years
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience as a registered nurse in a Pediatric ICU or emergency department, preferably in a Level One Trauma Center
  • Effective oral and written communication
  • Maintains current state of physical and mental well being
  • Able to lift 50lbs
  • Able to perform the job responsibilities in confined areas and/or differing environments while mobile (aircraft, ambulance)
  • Standard aircraft seatbelts will fit without alterations
  • Able to function in the cabin of the aircraft and truck without physical restrictions
  • Meets the weight requirement of less than 240 pounds in uniform
  • Ability to adapt to ever changing, high stress environment
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Delivers safe and appropriate care to patients, according to the nursing skills inventory and the age and needs of the patient/population served. Identifies and utilizes available resources to resolve any problems.
  • Coordinates the planning for the delivery of nursing care with an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary team and administers appropriate clinical decisions in the delivery of patient care, utilizing existing resources and staff, and setting appropriate priorities and patient assignments.
  • Collaborates with, directs, and may delegate to the healthcare team in the attainment of positive outcomes based on data, research, evidence, and professional standards of care.
  • Coordinates treatment plans; develops/implements discharge and/or transfer plans.
  • Participates in a systemic, interdisciplinary, and ongoing evaluation of programs, process improvement and desired client-centered outcomes.
  • Considers the diverse needs of each patient through the entire continuum of care, providing and ensuring the highest level of service according to established service standards, optimizing the patient experience.
  • Adheres to all regulatory and Texas Board of Nursing standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, within scope of practice and clinical competency.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
