OverviewWestern Michigan University, School of Medicine is looking for an experienced Registered Nurse to join our department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Under the guidance and supervision of the Clinical Nursing Manager, responsible for coordinating and directing assigned nursing staff in OB/MFM clinic. Works closely with the Clinic Nursing Manager and Medical director on a continual basis to manage staffing levels for each clinic, and coordinate care in an environment that enhances clinical practice and resident/student education.ResponsibilitiesObstetrics and Gynecology Team Lead role:

  • Provides direction and co supervises all employees within department of Obstetrics and gynecology,
  • Monitors staffing and workflow and makes suggestions to Clinical Nursing Manager for adjustments.
  • Assists Clinical nurse manager in timely performance evaluations of nursing (RN, LPN, MA) staff.
  • Responsible for verification and submission of timecards for nursing staff.
  • Assists the Clinical Nursing Manager with coordinating daily and monthly schedules. Assists the Clinical Nursing Manager with interviewing and selection of new staff.
  • Responsible for orientation for new staff.
  • Assists in on-going training for department staff.
  • Assists the Clinical Nursing Manager in resolving staff issues/conflicts.
  • Assists the Clinical Nursing Manager and physicians in identifying and maintaining clinical practice guidelines.
  • Attends meetings as requested.
  • Responsible for continuous compliance of the QI and Joint Commission process for designated clinics.
MFM RN role:
  • Under limited direction and according to established policies and procedures, provides care and coordination services to patients, families, or post-acute caregivers.
  • Patients appropriate for services may have acute or chronic conditions including, but not limited to, congenital conditions and complex pregnancy.
  • Functions as a facilitator of inter-disciplinary collaboration across care transitions.
  • Coaches target populations and their caregivers to assume an active role in forming and executing a care plan, encourage self-management and assist in coordinating communication between the patient, caregivers, and primary care providers.
  • Assesses patient and family understanding of disease process and reinforces discharge teaching, including red flags that signal the patient that their condition may be worsening and how to respond.
  • Collaborates and communicates with care providers, both internal and external, to coordinate service delivery and achieve the optimal patient outcome of care.
  • Collaborates and communicates with attending physician regarding patient\'s post-acute needs.
  • Creates and maintains a Patient-Centered Record that consists of the essential elements for facilitating productive interdisciplinary communication throughout any care transition or patient handover, including disease-specific education, community resources, and adherence to evidence-based practice, discharge checklists, and medication reconciliation.
  • Evaluates and improve care processes across patient populations.
  • Problem solves care issues and concerns with patients and family.
  • Availability to work occasional overtime on weekends or evenings to complete time sensitive projects.
  • Acquires knowledge for new technology and policy/procedure revisions.
  • All other duties as assigned.
The primary role of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine nurse will be to provide:"One-stop" access and coordination of services to pregnant patients of obstetrics providers, bother within WMed Health and external to WMed Health, to Maternal-Fetal Medicine and preemptive pediatric consultative and management services tailored to the referring physician\'s needs. The Maternal-Fetal Medicine nurse will work out of the WMed Maternal-Fetal Care Center.The level of activity could range from:
  • Total transfer of obstetric care to the Maternal-Fetal Medicine service.
  • MFM initial consultation and possible co-management with the referring provider.
  • Reproductive Genetics referral for consultation
  • Direct referral to the pediatric specialty group for preemptive consultation, with the patient\'s return to the referring obstetric provider for the continuation of care (with planned pediatric follow-up at or after delivery).
Depending on services required/requested, duties may include:
  • Direct patient contact for scheduling and coordinating consult visit(s), imaging studies, transfer of care, etc.
  • Ongoing correspondences with referring provider
  • Gathering insurance information, obtaining a referral, and ordering documents to assist with pre-authorization activities.
  • Obtain medical records and prenatal labs pre-consultation or transfer of care.
  • Coordinate imaging appointments and consultation visits.
  • Maintain ongoing data on services rendered, provider contact information, etc.
  • Assist in planned educational programming conferences, etc.
QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Nursing (BSN).
  • Five years of clinical patient care.
  • Maternal-Fetal Medicine background preferred.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Valid Michigan RN License
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge and ability to use the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Knowledge of phone system operation.
  • BCLS certification.
  • Working knowledge of basic word processing.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others verbally and in writing.
  • High level of organizational skills and the ability to concurrently manage multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities in organization of workflow.
  • Able to perform duties independently, with a minimal need for direct supervision.
