We are seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Nursing Supervisor to oversee nursing operations within our healthcare facility. The ideal candidate will possess extensive clinical expertise across various specialties, including critical care, geriatrics, pediatrics, and behavioral health, along with strong leadership skills. This role involves supervising nursing staff, ensuring compliance with healthcare standards, and maintaining high-quality patient care. The Nursing Supervisor will play a crucial role in coordinating interdisciplinary teams, managing patient assessments, and ensuring adherence to HIPAA regulations and documentation standards. Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, and Athenahealth is essential to streamline workflows and improve patient outcomes.
Duties
Supervise daily nursing activities across departments including medical-surgical, ICU, emergency medicine, long-term care, assisted living, and specialized units like PICU and neonatal ventilator care.
Lead and manage nursing staff through team management responsibilities such as scheduling, performance evaluations, and professional development.
Oversee patient care processes including vital signs monitoring, physical examinations, medication administration, IV insertion, catheter care, tube feeding, and sterile technique procedures.
Ensure accurate medical documentation using ICD-9/ICD-10 coding systems and maintain compliance with HIPAA and NCQA standards.
Coordinate discharge planning, case management, utilization review/management, and triage to optimize patient outcomes.
Oversee infection control practices and aseptic techniques to prevent hospital-acquired infections.
Facilitate diagnostic evaluations such as laboratory testing, medical imaging, sonography, spinal taps, and cardiac catheterization procedures.
Provide training on EMR/EHR systems including Epic, Cerner, eClinicalWorks, and Athenahealth for efficient documentation and communication.
Manage complex cases involving dementia care/memory care patients or individuals with developmental disabilities or behavioral health needs.
Support emergency procedures such as airway management and ventilator support while ensuring staff adherence to acute pain management protocols.
Requirements
Valid nursing license with current registration; experience in a supervisory or nurse management role preferred.
Extensive clinical background in areas such as ICU (including Level I & II Trauma Centers), cardiac care (including catheterization), neonatal intensive care (NICU), pediatric care (including PICU), geriatrics (including Alzheimer's and memory care), behavioral health, home care, or medical-surgical units.
Proven experience working with diverse patient populations including children, infants (neonatal ventilator), seniors with dementia or memory issues, and individuals with disabilities.
Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, CPT/DRG coding for documentation purposes.
Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, eClinicalWorks; familiarity with ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10) is essential.
Excellent leadership skills with supervisory experience managing multidisciplinary teams in fast-paced environments.
Ability to perform comprehensive patient assessments including vital signs collection and diagnostic evaluation procedures like venipuncture or phlebotomy.
Knowledge of infection control protocols and aseptic techniques; experience in sterile processing is a plus.
Ability to handle complex cases involving pain management or specialized procedures such as gastric lavage or spinal taps.
Strong organizational skills to coordinate discharge planning and utilization review processes effectively; familiarity with Workers' Compensation law is advantageous.
