Job Description


Responsible for the delivery of nursing care within the assigned practice scope of practices following organization policies and procedures, nursing process guidelines, standards of care, and standards of practice.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: * Monitors ordering and storage of chemotherapy medications and records related information.

  • Calculates and verifies with another qualified health professional the body surface area (BSA) of the patient and verify the appropriate dose ordered.
  • Prepares patient and administers chemotherapy assessing signs and symptoms of adverse reactions and ensuring patient comfort levels. Performs port draws and maintains ports.
  • Monitors and maintains chemotherapy equipment.
  • Monitors and ensures documentation of waste chemotherapy.
  • Assesses lab values and reports abnormal value to the physician.
  • Documents procedures performed and patient communications.
  • Acts as liaison for health care personnel, infusion center, laboratories, and pharmaceutical representatives.
  • Provides education and responds to patient as directed by the physician.
  • Triages patient phone calls and documents discussions about changes in treatment plan and follow-up diagnostic tests in conjunction with the physician.
  • Communicates issue/concerns of the patient with the physician that may impact treatment.
  • Oversees all non-licensed personnel and office operations according to set protocols.
  • Performs other related responsibilities as directed within the RN scope of practice.
Required:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • One year of oncology nursing experience.
  • Current State of Michigan registered nurse license.
  • BLS certification or equivalent through the Military Training Network (MTN).
  • Oncology Nurse Society (ONS) or equivalent Chemotherapy/Biotherapy administration course within six (6) months of hire.
Preferred:
  • ONCC Certified Oncology Nurse (OCN) within two years of hire.
