Summary:
Under the direction of the Manager Medical Imaging and LPG Lifestyle Medicine Manager, performs a variety of technical Bone Densitometry and mammographic procedures; applies prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis. Responsible for designated areas or procedures, as required. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age specific needs of the adult and geriatric patient and adapt their care to the physical, psychosocial and cultural needs. Fosters patient and family centered care and radiologic services in accordance with the Lifespan and The Miriam Hospital\'s mission, vision, values, with consideration of the life span, including all developmental stages as well as cultural patterns.

Responsibilities:

Meets, greets, answers questions, and provides an understandable explanation of mammographic/bone density examinations to patients in order to reduce apprehension. Provides for safety and comfort of all patients in accordance with prescribed standards.

Schedules patients for bone density and mammography examinations in a prescribed manner ensuring an efficient patient flow.

Provides screening of mammography and bone density patients (visually and written).

Performs diagnostic procedures demonstrating sound understanding of anatomical positioning, physiology and technical factors in order to produce optimal results.

Provides for safety and comfort of all patients in accordance with prescribed standards.

Operates fixed radiographic equipment in the Radiology Department at WMC. When stationed at TMH, duties will include assistance and imaging of needle localization procedures.

Processes radiographic images. Sends images to PACS for physician review.

Scans documents into RIS and PACS, when applicable.

Responsible for quality control for mammography unit / bone density, in the absence of the Lead DI Technologist Follows the guidelines and protocols for MQSA (Mammography QA/QC. ACR and/or ISCD.

Follows protocols for appropriate usage of the PACS and RIS.

Maintains orderliness, cleanliness and adequate supplies for assigned area. Rotates within the department and by shift as required.

Participates in the training and instruction of radiologic technology for staff radiographers and students, as applicable.

Maintains quality assurance, observant of hospital and department safety regulations, environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies, procedures and objectives.

Attire and personal appearance must conform to departmental guidelines and standards. Perform other related duties as required.

Other information:

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Completion of formal training in an AMA-approved accredited school of radiologic technology or equivalent. Maintains a current license to work in the State of Rhode Island. Must hold current ARRT certification and current mammography certification. If performing BD exams also needs ISCD (or ARRT) certificate.

Must maintain requirements as outlined by the Mammography Quality Standards Act, American College of Radiology, and ISCD (if applicable).

Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of two years of Radiology experience including proficiency in the following procedures: Routine bone density and mammography. Two years of mammography experience required to perform mammography procedures

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals, physicians\' offices and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact. Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including use safety equipment and protective clothing.

Walks and stands intermittently throughout the day. Subject to electrical and energy hazards. May lift and position patients and lift supplies up to 50 pounds.
