General Summary:






Under the general supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, this position performs professional duties in creating, planning, developing, coordinating, implementing, supervising, marketing, and evaluating youth and adult general interest programs, special events and other recreation programs.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Plan, promote and manage recreation programs for youth and adult community members. This includes a combination of general interest programs, senior services, arts and cultural programs. May lead or co-lead to plan, promote and manage special events for District residents. This includes community festivals, summer concerts, holiday events and a variety of other community events. Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates part-time and seasonal personnel; assigns work as necessary. Creates program descriptions for the District Activity Guide and social media posts. Works closely with Facilities and Parks Maintenance team as well as other Recreation team members to ensure indoor and outdoor site program space for optimum conditions for program, drop-in, or rental participant safety and experience. Coordinates partnerships with various community agencies and other District departments to provide opportunities for successful recreation programs. Oversees contacts and agreements with vendors, non-profits, schools, municipalities, etc. Assist and attend a variety of training seminars, part-time staff meetings, and community meetings. Maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment; distributes supplies and equipment; orders supplies and equipment for programs. Assists with public relation duties such as preparing and distributing flyers; works closely with the Communication Director on the District Activity Guide. Processes background checks for all staff and volunteers. Prepares and administers individual program budgets; monitoring expenditures and revenues to meet Department cost recovery requirements. Provide registration support, Rec-Trac program registration and reservation module, answer telephones, and maintain correspondence with other District staff members; respond to public inquiries about the facility and programs. Coordinates and supervises part-time staff and volunteers on weeknights, weekends and holidays. Oversee the opening and closing the operations of the recreation court, field, facility or school depending on program needs. Set-up tables, sports equipment, chairs, and bleachers for classes and perform emergency custodial work. Makes safety checks on the sites and eliminate hazards to ensure complete safety of the participants. Provide security for the building and grounds. Assists in securing sponsorships for special events. Performs other duties as requested.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:






Knowledge of a variety of programming opportunities including developing new programs and evaluating program's success. Knowledge of developing and administering recreation programs. Ability to work in stressful situations; ability to stay calm and have excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Highly organized with the ability to maintain records, prepare reports and monitor budget. Required to work evenings, night shifts, weekends and holidays, depending on program needs. Ability to establish and maintain effective & professional working relationships with co-workers, the public, and any outside organizations. Excellent internal and external customer service skills. Ability to follow written and oral instructions; ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; ability to direct the work of others. Knowledge of Rec Trac desired; strong technical skills with ability to use technology to enhance operations. Strong business acumen and ability to implement and manage cost recovery strategies. Will be expected to share the responsibility and work weekends, evenings and holidays along with availability during the holiday season. This position must have the ability and lifestyle to accommodate a flexible work schedule. To support balance of hours worked, there is a Districtwide requirement that all employees (exempt included) track hours worked through a check-in/out time-keeping system.

Working Environment/Physical Activities:






Encompasses a wide range of duties with 50% of time spent in an office environment and 50% in the field. Will have to manage several projects at one time and may be interrupted frequently to meet the needs of the District. The environment can be busy, noisy, and will need excellent organization and time and stress management skills to complete the required tasks.



Qualifications:






Bachelor's degree in recreation administration, physical education, or another closely related field. Minimum of one (1) year experience in public recreation. Must have a valid State of Colorado driver license Must also have or obtain First Aid and CPR Certification within 30 days of employment.
