Overview of Position:



The Recreation Manager oversees Trails and Recreation venues and easements in the Town of Dover, including day-to-day operations and long-term planning. Trails maintenance, planning, grant applications and community relations are all pieces of this role.

Essential Job Functions:



The following are illustrative of duties and responsibilities associated with this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.

Trail and Venue Maintenance:


o Plan and conduct trails maintenance as needed on existing venues including Dover Town Forest, Horace Hill, Dover Park. This may include working with contracted vendors or Town Highway staff.

o Regularly inspect and assess trails and venues for safety, maintenance needs, and signage improvements.

o Regularly collect and interpret trail counter data, using Town counters or in conjunction with Windham Regional Commission.

o Maintain records and train and oversee volunteers for regular and special trail work.

Trail Planning, Construction & Mapping:


o Identify trail connections or potential easements.

o Examine potential opportunities as listed in the Weston & Sampson Trails Master Plan such as skateboard facility, dog park, recreational fields and more.

o Estimate costs of new trail construction and/or maintenance and improvement projects including labor, materials, and equipment.

o Design, plan, and order supplies and materials for new and replacement structures on trails and venues.

o Create and update trail maps as needed on own and with Windham Regional Commission.

Administration:


o Work with Economic Development Director to prepare grant proposals, bid estimates, requests for proposals, contracts for trail projects, budgeting for trails and venue accounts.

o Manage grants and projects including monitoring budgets, coding invoices, obtaining permits and clearances for projects.

Marketing and Community Relations:


o Act as Town of Dover liaison and maintain relationships with all user interest groups.

o Represent the Town of Dover at meetings and through personal contact with the public, media and outside service providers.

o Create or support recreation programming like guided trail walks and intro to disc golf events.

o Develop marketing and outreach initiatives for Town of Dover venues and events.

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



Bachelor's degree or other experience in recreation or related field. Enthusiasm for recreation and the daily operations of the role. Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to use computers and related position technology effectively. Valid driver's license.

Work Environment and Physical Demands



The position can be physically demanding at times and may require heavy lifting, working from a ladder and spending a significant amount of time outdoors. Must be able to tolerate a variety of temperatures from inside office environments to outdoors - cold, rain, heat, humidity, dirt and dust. Regularly sits, stands, walks through the course of a typical day. May occasionally have to climb, balance, bend, kneel or crawl. Must be able to move items up to 10 pounds with occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.

This is a full-time position with an excellent benefits package. Starting salary ranges from $52,000-$58,000.
