As a Sports Coordinator with the Recreation Department, you will be responsible for the effective management and organization of various Youth and Adult Sports Leagues within the Recreation Department. This role involves overseeing day-to-day operations, supervising Field Monitors and Scorekeepers, and ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all participants.
DUTIES
Assist the Sports Supervisor in coordinating and overseeing the organization of Sports Leagues, including scheduling, team assignments, and league communications.
Maintain accurate records, including participant registrations, rosters, waivers, schedules, and scores.
Communicate regularly with league participants, addressing inquiries and providing updates.
Supervise and provide guidance to Field Monitors and Scorekeepers during league events.
Ensure team compliance with league rules and regulations, addressing any issues that may arise as the first point of contact for teams and field monitors/scorekeepers.
Communication with the Sports Supervisor on regular league updates/needs/issues.
Create purchase requests and order approved items such as equipment, uniforms, and awards.
Assist in the development and implementation of new and growing sports leagues.
Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Must be at least 18 years of age.
High School degree or GED equivalent.
Must be familiar with Microsoft Suite, be able to use email, and perform basic computer tasks.
Previous experience in sports coordination, recreation, community sports, or a related field.
Ability to work evenings and weekends, as league schedules dictate.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
CPR and First Aid certification or willing to become certified in first 3 months of hire.
Must possess a valid Michigan driver license with a good driving record (based on City of Troy standards). Out of state applicants must provide current driving record at time of application and obtain State of Michigan license within one (1) month of appointment.
As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must pass a background and pre-employment physical including drug screen, including marijuana.
PREFERENCES
Interest in sports and working with the community.
Knowledge of softball, soccer, kickball, basketball, and/or tennis rules and regulations.

HOURS
This position averages 25 to 30 hours per week with a variable schedule that includes a mix of daytime, evening, and occasional weekend hours. Weekly hours are spread throughout the week to support both administrative responsibilities and league/event management. Scheduling will vary based on seasonal programming and operational needs.
