The Recreation Department is currently recruiting a full-time, benefit-eligible, Recreation Coordinator. Under the direct supervision of the Recreation Manager, as a member of the Recreation Department staff, this position is expected to provide communication, leadership and assistance for supervisors, participants and employees for recreation programs Recreation focus areas will include: variety of different areas, included but not limited to art classes, seniors and grants more.
Examples of Duties
Coordination
Assist Recreation Managers/Supervisors to provide leadership, work direction, schedules, communication and on site supervision for part-time/seasonal staff, contractual staff and volunteers.
Organize the planning of programs, trainings, meetings, ongoing coaching and evaluations. Supervise, lead, and set a positive example for participants.
Technical Assist with program and event management including registration, marketing, staff supervision, schedules, public outreach, communications and coordination of employees and programs.
Responsible for communication with program partners, participants and employees regarding program updates, facility conditions and weather related issues.
Keep accurate records of daily attendance, accident reports and discipline reports. Document and inform supervisor of on-site program concerns including scheduling conflicts, maintenance needs, and all other pertinent program related issues. Inventory supplies and equipment for programs, communicate with supervisor and purchase additional supplies as directed.

General
1. Enhance participant experience and community engagement.
2. Complete assigned program reports, surveys and evaluations.
3. Demonstrate creativity and initiative to develop and implement new programs.
4. Communicate and problem solve with supervisor, coordinator, co-workers, community partners, parents and participants.
5. Ability to successfully collaborate with various departments, vendors, community partners and organizations.
6. Administer basic first aid as needed.
7. Follow the City of Brooklyn Center policies and procedures.
8. Other duties as assigned. Working Conditions
1. Hours are primarily Monday-Friday, including evening and weekends as programs and events dictate.
2. Program participants may range in ages from 4 to older adults, with group sizes ranging from 4 to 1500 or more.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Communications:
Must have the ability to actively listen to others for understanding of their needs and situations; ability to speak and write English clearly.
Must have the ability to communicate effectively with persons who do not speak English and are from a variety of different cultures.
Must be able to assertively control conversations in order to quickly and accurately gather pertinent information and be able to communicate this information professional and precisely to the proper recipient.
Be able to read and understand correspondence, memoranda and directives.
Must have strong customer service skills.

Must act in a decisive manner, using good judgment. Must be able to assess problems and situations, able to anticipate needs and evaluate alternatives. Must have knowledge of utilization of appropriate resources and the willingness to initiate use of available resources.

Technical Knowledge:
Must have working knowledge of computer software, publishing software, and office equipment including phones. Must have ability to quickly learn new information and initiate improvements as needed.

Physical Abilities:
Must have the ability to read and discern visual images on a variety of media. Must have the ability to remain seated or standing at the same work-station for up to eight hours at a time with appropriate breaks within that time frame. Must have the ability to record names and numbers accurately. Must have ability to hear while answering telephone and receiving visitors at counter. Must have ability to bend to file items frequently. Must be able to stand, talk, write, hear, balance, run, sit, kick, kneel, throw, and lift up to 25 lbs.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years old.
Must meet one of the following criteria:
1. Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in recreation, education, or closely related field OR,
2. Two years of post-secondary education and three years of year round job experience in recreation OR
3. Two years of post-secondary education and five years of seasonal job experience in recreation.
Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Word and Excel.
Experience working in recreation.
Demonstrates competent communication and customer service skills. Demonstrates strong problem solving abilities and techniques.
Ability to apply the knowledge and skills required to provide work direction and leadership for part-time and contractual staff and volunteers.
Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
Ability to work well with others and independently as responsibilities may require.
Applicant must be able to stand, talk, write, hear, balance, run, sit, kick, kneel, throw, and lift up to 25 lbs.
Supplemental Information
Desired Qualifications
First Aid/CPR Certification.
Experience working with persons with special needs and/or disabilities.
Experience working with recreation software programs and social media platforms.
