IMMEDIATE VACANIES:
PERMANENT-PART-TIME ($1,473.00 monthly): Makawao and Wailuku

NOTE: Qualified applicants will be required to take an online exam. Applicants are required to test alone in a quiet, distraction-free area using a reliable computer with a high-speed internet connection, a microphone, a webcam (internal or external), and a Windows or Apple Operating System. Applicants who do not meet the system requirements will be provided an opportunity to take the online exam on site.

SHIFTS MAY VARY, MUST BE ABLE TO WORK ALL SHIFTS, INCLUDING NIGHTS, WEEKENDS, AND HOLIDAYS.

Performs a variety of tasks in the maintenance and operation of recreation facilities; assists in the conduct of athletic, cultural, social and recreational activities; and performs other related duties as required.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

This class is distinguished by its responsibility to perform a variety of tasks in the maintenance and operation of recreation facilities and to assist in the conduct of athletic, cultural, social and recreational activities by performing a variety of ancillary tasks in support of the Recreation Assistants and/or Recreation Technicians.

Examples of Duties

The following are examples of duties and are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in this class. The omission of specific duties statements does not preclude management from assigning such duties if such duties are a logical assignment for the position.

Performs a variety of tasks in the maintenance and operation of indoor and outdoor recreation facilities such as ball fields, basketball courts, and other similar areas; maintains schedules of use for assigned recreational areas or facilities and keeps records of attendance; sets up and breaks down areas for scheduled activities including marking off of playing areas with prescribed markings prior to league or tournament play; checks recreation area for general condition, safety hazards or for routine maintenance needs and reports findings to supervisor; controls materials and equipment used; receives, stores and issues expendable supplies and equipment; arranges for equipment or tools, charges them to participants and checks them for condition on their return; keeps inventory records and notifies supervisor of need to re-order supplies; assists in the conduct of athletic, cultural, social and recreational activities by performing such duties as scorekeeping, officiating, reporting team and league standings; keeping schedules of various events, posting announcements of scheduled activities and answering inquiries about time and place and other matters related to the activities scheduled, assisting in the supervision of large groups, etc.; may assist in the supervision of recreational arts and crafts and hobbies; performs other related clerical and custodial duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school, supplemented by experience involving the supervision and/or coordination of group activities, preferably in recreation and/or athletic programs. Such experience may be met from part-time and/or volunteer work provided there is evidence of some continuity of participation.

License Requirement: Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator\'s license equivalent to a State of Hawaii (Type 3).

Knowledge of: recreation equipment; rules and regulations of a variety of popular games and sports; basic skills in reading, writing and speaking; basic arithmetic; public relations.

Ability to: understand and follow oral and written instructions; keep records; interpret rules and regulations of various popular games and sports; prepare and maintain records; deal tactfully and effectively with the public; work harmoniously with others.

Health and Physical Condition:

Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper for performance of the duties.

The above examination is being given on an open-competitive basis to establish an eligible list which shall be effective for not more than one year unless extended by the Director of Personnel Services.
