Position Summary

Performs timely and accurate quality inspections, checks and tests, using approved sampling procedures of incoming raw materials, parts and components used in the manufacture or research and development of medical devices. Also, performs inspections, checks, tests, and sampling procedures of partially assembled or finished medical devices, first article inspections and processing of nonconforming product. All inspections will meet company and external regulatory compliance guidelines, policies and procedures. Day to day duties are performed under general supervision.

Essential Job Functions

  • Perform inspections of vendor supplied parts, subassemblies or finished company products according to well defined criteria using standard physical and mechanical measurements.
  • Use metrological or scientific instrumentation to perform receipt and first article inspections.
  • Accurately update systems, such as ERP and Excel logs, to record transactions and information relevant to each inspection.
  • Complete required documentation for part inspections, first articles, non-conforming product reports, trend reports and other documentation related to the inspection process. Enter/update electronic nonconformance data with the electronic system as necessary.
  • Maintain part/component inspection and history files.
  • Monitor critical equipment and instrumentation to ensure proper operation and calibration.
  • Performs inspections and determines suitability of use for all returned finished devices.
  • Performs rework including rebox/relabel of returned finished devices that are determined suitable for use.
  • Contributes as an active team member of the MRB meeting and process.
  • Participate in the development and/or revision of SOPs for the inspection function.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties listed above. Perform other related duties as required in support of company and department objectives.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have the ability to use metrological or scientific instrumentation to perform part/component inspections.
  • General knowledge of and ability to use wide range of precision measuring equipment.
  • General knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance.
  • Must have the ability to interpret engineering drawings.
  • Manual dexterity and agility sufficient to perform all required activities.
  • Must understand quality requirements of QSR and ISO 13485:2003.
  • Must understand sampling requirements of ANSI/ASQ Z1.4-2008, ANSI/ASQ Z1.9-2008 and C=0 sampling plan.
  • General proficiency of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
  • Ability to work within a team environment and independently.
  • Desire to continually learn in order to keep up with changing technology.
  • Ability to interpret written guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to work under general direction.
  • Ability to regularly lift 30 pounds.
  • Working knowledge of metrology and mathematical principles.
  • Good oral and written comprehension skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
Experience/Education
  • Minimum of one year Quality Control experience in Receiving Inspection using mechanical inspection and metrological inspection techniques is required. ASQ certified quality technician preferred. Minimum related work experience of 1 year in quality control documentation/inspection processes, data collection and entry, including the use of computers. Auditing experience strongly preferred.
  • HS Diploma/GED or equivalent experience
