Position Overview

The Ranch Technician under the direction of the Supervisor Conservation, is responsible for all aspects of recreational infrastructure management including training, planning, trail and campsite survey and design, work crew management, camper conservation projects, and GIS in support of participant programs and overall Ranch and land management priorities


Responsibilities




Assists with the development of recreation infrastructure and manages the execution of programs and projects using staff, contractors, and partners to meet identified Philmont priorities. Follows safety standards and procedures. Provides leadership to approximately 70 seasonal staff including planning and delivering training, managing performance, and providing worksite expertise. Works with stakeholders, neighbors, industry, and conservation-related partners to establish and maintain working relationships for the benefit of the Ranch. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Competencies




Knowledge of:Recreation infrastructure, crew, facility, property, and equipment maintenance; safety standards and procedures.

Skill in:Recreation infrastructure design, construction, and maintenance, project design and management, contract administration, small engine repair, prescribed fire operation, staff hiring and training, chainsaw and equipment skills, off-highway vehicle operation.

Ability to:Pay attention to detail; manage time; communicate effectively; work in a team; problem solve.

Education




High School Diploma or GED equivalency.


Qualifications




Minimum of 6 months of experience in related field. Must pass a criminal history background check. Must be willing to wear appropriate safety gear, including boots, gloves, and protective clothing while performing duties.

Licenses




Proven GIS skills and NWCG Certifications/Fire experience are desired.


Preference




Prior Philmont experience helpful but is not required.
