Job Description

SBM is looking for a Ranch Manager! The Ranch Manager oversees daily operations, property maintenance, and staff coordination to ensure the ranch runs efficiently and meets high standards. This role requires leadership, organizational skills, and hands-on experience with land management and operating heavy equipment. This position is responsible for managing contractors, resources, and projects while maintaining safety and quality across all ranch activities.
Roles & Responsibilities:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Oversee all ranch operations at multiple estates under one owner, including land management, irrigation, fencing, livestock care (if applicable), and facility maintenance.
  • Plan and implement seasonal projects such as pasture restoration, erosion control, and infrastructure improvements.
  • Maintain accurate records of property activities, maintenance logs, and operational budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and agricultural regulations.
  • Operate and maintain heavy machinery such as tractors, skid steers, graders, excavators, and backhoes for land clearing, grading, trenching, and road maintenance.
  • Perform basic maintenance, troubleshooting, and safety inspections on all ranch vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Manage and maintain ranch roads, drainage systems, and fire breaks.
  • Safely transport materials and equipment as needed for various ranch projects.
  • Oversee contractors: scheduling and supervising project work
  • Schedule daily tasks, assign responsibilities, and ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Coordinate and supervise outside vendors (fencing, tree removal, electrical, etc.).
  • Maintain a positive, team-oriented work environment that reflects professionalism and respect.
  • Oversee upkeep of barns, stables, fences, gates, and utility infrastructure.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for equipment, vehicles, and facilities.
  • Maintain ranch aesthetics in coordination with ownership or estate management team.
  • Manage purchase supplies and track expenses.
  • Provide regular operational reports and updates to ownership.
  • Assist with project planning and vendor bids. Some travel required.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in ranch or management.
  • Valid driver's license; CDL required.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining heavy equipment (tractor, skid steer, excavator, grader, etc.); license and 3+ years required
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience managing staff and coordinating multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of land management, grading, livestock, and agricultural practices.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physically demanding work in varying conditions.
Compensation: $150,000 - $170,000 per year
