Overview

The Purchase Clerk performs clerical and administrative duties related to the procurement of goods and services for Jones County, Mississippi. This position ensures compliance with state purchasing laws, county policies, and budgetary guidelines while maintaining accurate records of transactions.

Responsibilities

Prepare and process purchase orders, requisitions, and related documents. Verify accuracy of pricing, quantities, and vendor information. Communicate with vendors regarding quotes, delivery schedules, and order status. Assist in bid preparation and opening processes in compliance with Mississippi purchasing regulations. Maintain organized records of purchases, contracts, and inventory. Monitor deliveries and follow up on late or incomplete shipments. Provide support for accounts payable by matching invoices to purchase orders. Provide support for inventory department by coding accurately according to state laws. Respond to inquiries from departments regarding purchasing procedures. Ensure adherence to county purchasing policies and state procurement laws. Perform general clerical tasks including data entry, filing, and report generation. Must be certified by the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor following completion of training.

Experience

Purchasing and or accounting experience required, preferably in a government setting. High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in business or related field preferred. Knowledge of Mississippi purchasing laws and county procurement procedures (or ability to learn quickly). Proficiency in Microsoft Office and financial software systems. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to communicate effectively with vendors and internal departments. This position requires the employee to be bondable.
Pay: $21.60 - $24.03 per hour
