Open Road is seeking a part-time Publishing Intern to assist the VP, Publisher. The role is an in-person position for 3 eight-hour days, Tuesday through Thursday. The candidate will not only interact with the editorial team, but also with production, art, finance. It requires a high degree of organizational and communication skills. This position is unpaid and for-credit only. The intern must be eligible to receive academic credit.

Essential Functions

  • Provide administrative and clerical support to the Publishing Department
  • Act as a liaison between authors, agents, and different departments within the company
  • Prepare transmittals for new acquisitions in a title management database for the production team; create design briefs for the Art Department
  • Assist with new contracts and license renewals
  • Order book copies for authors, agents
  • Provide research assistance on works for possible acquisition as well as on renewals and queries from authors and agents
  • Assist in other ad-hoc projects and tasks
Requirements
  • Interested in publishing (primarily eBooks), and particularly in bringing iconic \xe2\x80\x9cbacklist\xe2\x80\x9d (previously published) titles to a new audience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.), and Google Drive
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and exceptional organizational skills
  • Team player that can thrive in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment
  • Interested in editorial-to-production processes
