JOIN OUR TEAM AS A PUBLIC WORKS INSPECTOR!


The Public Works Inspector - Road Rehabilitation provides quality control of projects primarily in road construction and rehabilitation of local and major roads to include right-of-way projects primarily in earthwork, paving and road related drainage. This position also provides assistance to the Citizens of Pasco County during time of natural disasters and flooding events.

Essential Job Functions

Assesses the condition of existing public infrastructure and prepare necessary reports. Performs roadway condition testing and assessment to identify maintenance and rehabilitation needs. Ensures the engineer and/or contractor provides the required number and types of tests needed for the project, and test results are within acceptable industry or county ranges, and any other required documents. Performs inspections and provides oral and written response concerning problems encountered and necessary corrective actions. Reports and documents the status of construction activities and maintenance operations daily. Remains well-informed of new developments and trends in paving technology in regards to operating techniques, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Collects data for reports and studies. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. Performs other related work as required.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Must be able to learn quickly and work independently with little supervision. Knowledge of road maintenance and inspection procedures and materials. Ability to interact with local contractors, and the skill to formulate concise inspection reports. Knowledge of paving design criteria, standards, and applicable permit requirements. Knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment common to road construction. Knowledge of Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) standards and methods. Effective communication and interaction with contractors and the public in a professional manner. Able to utilize small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems. Utilization of computers for data entry, word processing, and to prepare accurate daily inspection reports. Highly skilled in the utilization of technical computer applications, such as GIS or CAD. Ability to read construction site plans. Ability to analyze data and develop logical conclusions.

Minimum Requirements

PHYSICAL SKILLS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. May require the use of hand and power tools. Requires standing, walking, bending, stooping, and sitting. Works indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written, and visual communication. Ability to drive for long durations of time.



EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Must possess an Associate degree from an accredited college or university with major in an Engineering, Science or Technical field; and three (3) years of experience in road construction and road rehabilitation inspection or closely related duties

OR

a High School Diploma or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and five (5) years of experience required.



LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS:

Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. Possession of FDOT certifications, Asphalt Level I or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
