POSITION

SUMMARY





This positions primary responsibility is the receiving of incoming emergency and service requests, either by telephone or in person, prioritizing these requests and dispatching the appropriate person(s) to respond. Through two-way radio, this position keeps track of and records the activities and locations of the police officers and student officers. This position is also responsible for the tracking, filing and recording of all police reports, along with other clerical duties. It is also cross-trained and responsible to handle switchboard and police academy training.

Dispatch / Communications: Disseminates requests for assistance that come into the dispatch desk, either by telephone or in person. Determine the severity and priority of each request. Dispatch and receive radio communications from police and civilian officers. Record activity on the Daily Dispatch Log, which serves as a permanent document of each day's activities and on other appropriate Public Safety record management systems. Assist officers by obtaining information from local and state law enforcement agencies. Also assist these outside agencies by providing requested information upon request, as appropriate.


Develop familiarity with the College Video Safety System and Door Access Control System. Send emergency messages as necessary using the College emergency alerting system.


Monitor Fire and Intrusion alarm panels and take appropriate action if they are activated. This position becomes the central communication center in all college emergencies. A dispatcher handles radio communications for both the police officers and the Facilities Management employees in the event of Fire Alarms, Bomb Threats and other emergencies. Create College student and employee identification cards. Issue room keys or provide directions or other information requested.


Clerical: Types and processes police reports and enters necessary information into a police record management system. Processes and maintains separate records of parking ticket, verbal and written traffic warnings, security violations, issuance of keys and room openings. Serves as the agency TAC for LEIN. Types office correspondence and maintains all department files..


Back-up Duties / Miscellaneous: Logs in found property. Verifies ownership and returns lost/found property to the Owner. Contact and advise appropriate Facilities Management employees of specific requests, i.e. pop spill, lights being out, and complaints of classrooms being too cold or hot.




Required Qualifications


High school diploma or GED Good typing, computer and communication skills No felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving crimes of assault, threats, theft, or dishonesty CPR & First Aid Certification required, or to be obtained after hire Position related experience



Additional Experiences Considered


1-3 years position related experience Knowledge of LEIN Experience with video security systems and door access control systems
